A Very Brief Story Of Jackie's Childhood
Jackie showed strength and courage when facing the ups and downs of her childhood and young adult years. When she was eleven years old her parents got a divorce. Jackie was left struggling to have independence as her parents fought over the custody of her and her sister (Heymann 50). Jackie’s father was an extravagant man and showed great love to his daughters, particularly Jackie who was his favorite. He feared however, that the girls’ stepfather’s much larger wealth would steal away his daughters (Leaming 7). Two years after the divorce, Jackie’s mother had remarried to Hugh Auchinloss Jr. (3.) As the oldest child, Jackie was given a lot of responsibilities on her step-father’s farm. She had reacted badly to the divorce and was highly upset when her mother …show more content…
Throughout her school years, Jackie did very well and was known as the “model Farmington girl” (5). She was incredibly bright, finishing lessons before the other kids, and then rushing off to do one of her many activities (Heymann 25). At a young age, Jackie became interested in worldly affairs and watched and noted Marshal Pétain’s trial (Leaming 18) She “made it clear that she had higher ideas for herself than housekeeping” (12). After her eighteenth birthday, Jackie was presented as a Debutante. Not long after, she was named “Queen Deb” by Igor Cassini, a columnist for Hearst newspapers (14). His reasoning for choosing her over any of the other girls was she had “a knack of compelling attention” (14). With the debutantes, Jackie was given the chance to travel to Europe where she met Winston Churchill (15). In 1949, at the end of her debutante years, Jackie traveled back to Europe and lived in France for a year (Heymann 79). Living in a different country would be plenty different; much less a country where one doesn’t speak the language or know anybody at

Tillie Henderson has both failed and achieved grace in her lifetime, though her failures are arguably more obvious. Her largest failure was her inability to keep her daughter, Jazzlyn, off the “stroll,” or rather, from a life of prostitution. After Jazzlyn was born, Tillie vowed, “She’s never gonna work the stroll,” however, this promise never came to fruition and Jazzlyn became a prostitute when she was a teenager. This broken promise exists amongst a series of other discarded efforts to be a good mother to Jazzlyn, such as “keeping her straight by keeping her on the streets” but eventually assisting Jazzlyn in her drug addiction. In this sense, Tillie has failed immensely.…

This book was written by Jacqueline, an African American author. I choose this book because I think it is a great representation of cultural diversity. It is about a rope that became an important item for an African American family. The family used the rope for three generation. The rope moved with the family from South Carolina to New York in the period of The Great Migration. The family used the rope in different ways such as: to jump, to tie things, to dry sweet flowers...etc. It is a good story of hope and joy of a little African American girl during her journey with her family. What I like about this book is that it shows to the young readers the importance of families traditions. It is nice to keep and use old things that remind us of a family member or even a home country. Also, expose the students to other families' traditions.…

Jackie Kennedy presented a new convention of glamor and appeal to the First Lady lifestyle. Jackie’s elegant style aided her refurbishment of the White House public rooms. Her primary focus was to fill the rooms with antiquities and reflect earlier presidencies following the founding of the United States. The concept of this project created the First Lady’s project for her successors, an area of concern, which often addressed national style, the needs of an underprivileged demographic or a social issue. Jackie also supported and influenced the President to recognize value in allocating federal aid towards art and music programs in lower school education and museums. However, unlike her immediate predecessors, Jackie was not an active political…

In every good heroic tale we have a hero, the face of good and a character one the audience can empathize with. In the film Million Dollar Baby Maggie Fitzgerald is the hero who shows courage, dedication and strength. In the film Cinderella Man we meet James J. Braddock, a man with similar characteristics as Maggie. Both characters show typical heroic trademarks in physical attributes and morals. It is the family life and the reason for fighting where these two humble characters differentiate. James, like Maggie, is an athlete. Both characters have a passion for boxing but it's what drives this passion that is different for James and Maggie. For James, supporting his family is his number one priority. His family is his support and they come before everything else, including himself. He shows this in two instances, giving his breakfast to his daughter Rosie and by promising he wouldn't send his kids away, "no matter what". Maggie on the other hand is self dependent, fighting for a personal dream. She tells Frankie, "If I'm too old for this then I've got nothing". It gives her pleasure to feel as though she is contributing to her family's wellbeing, by buying them a house, although her help isn't appreciated nor is it backed up by support. Whilst the Fitzgerald family is busy worrying about Maggie's inheritance instead of her health and happiness, James's family is the opposite, begging him not to fight Max Bare because he has killed two men, but…
