Career Self-Reflection I

Maintaining patient files occurs within various types of health care and health care settings. One goal of this course is to help you contemplate choices for your career.

From what you’ve learned about medical records and health care settings so far, highlight the choices that best reflect your career interests and explain your reasons:

1. My career interest at this time is more oriented toward:

· Primary care—point of first contact
· Secondary care—specialist services by referral
· Tertiary care—unusual disorders

because: I would get to work either with children or adults, referred by primary and secondary care, investigating or treating the unusual disorder; I would prefer working with children dealing with disorders.

2. If I were to work in a hospital department, I would prefer:

· Ambulatory care
· Ancillary services
· Emergency care
· Critical care
· Surgery

because: In critical care, I would get involved with people or children that are dealing with life-threatening illness.

3. If I were to work in behavioral health care, I would prefer outpatient clinic.

because: I would work in a outpatient clinic because is similar going to a doctor facility, patients would go to the clinic for following check ups or by appointments.

4. The medical specialty that interests me most is: neonatal intensive care unit.

because: Intensive care unit is a place of hope for babies with special medical needs. They closely watch every babies constantly around-the-clock with monitors or treatment. With the help of special equipment, they are able to respond quickly to any emergencies.

5. The patient population that I am most interested in working with is: children and babies with medical needs. Consider age, language-base, special needs, etc.

because: Working with children and premature babies provides medical care who are critical ill and needs care for their illness or
