Becoming A Copy Editor
Deciding to apply to become a copy editor was an easy choice for me just by reading the job description. The the skills that were listed were points that I believe I would be able to handle well. For example, as a copy editor it's your responsibility to check for grammar and spelling mistakes. As a reader I know that it expands your vocabulary and you would be able to recognize grammar mistakes in writing. This is a trait you would need as a copy editor since your main focus is to look over your peers writing errors. Also since you would need to read everyone's papers it would be beneficial if you enjoyed reading so you wouldn't get bored from all the papers you are given. Another advantage is that since I have already read many books it

The Wichita Kid from “The Gunfighter” by Alden Nowlan and a young man living on the streets of Calgary both demonstrate that we fear what we do not understand. Citizens need to personally comprehend someones situation before they can help or judge them directly. Homelessness and poverty are often hard situations to face considering how uncomfortable and awkward it can become. When Kevin O’Brien has a short conversation with Wichita he learns that he is unaware of reality and living his delusional life as a famous gunfighter. Confused and not understanding Wichita’s situation, Kevin tries to solve his own guilt by lending the young boy some spare change. Much like Kevin O’Brien when I encountered the young unfortunate man in Calgary my own heart ached, so I tossed him a couple of loonies and left. Although you feel major misery there is rarely anything you can do to support them without getting deeply involved.…

We spent a while on researching the proper way to apply to a job; including how to fill out an application, how to do a cover letter and different interview skills. I come to find out that it is very important to know how to fill out an application the right way and know how to write up a resume because those two things can make or break your chances in getting the job. When writing your resume you want to use ¨power words¨ in order to make yourself sound more appealing. Also your formatting of the resume has a bigger impact on the job than you might think. You want to make sure your resume is only one page, filled completely but not too cluttered and is always truthful to what you are capable of doing. When filling out the application the most important thing to think about is to be honest. You do not want to imply that you can do something that you can not do. Next, to create a successful cover letter you want to make sure that your formatting is correct. Also you want to make it appoint that you are interested in the job and go into a little bit of detail on why you think you would be perfect for the job. Lastly, at the end of your cover letter you always want to ask for a interview and that you look forward to hearing from them. Once you do get the interview you want to prepare for it. You want to look presentable, like you actually want the job. Also you can simply look up…

College and career writing have diverse similarities and differences. The first similarity is how the way a person should use grammar. Grammar usage is a very important aspect in writing for professors and business owners. For example, if an application for a job has horrendous grammar, the reader of that application will most likely automatically trash that application. Additionally, if a professor receives a paper with terrible grammar, it will be given a poor grade. The second similarity has to do with writing to an important audience. Regardless if we know it or not, professors partially dictate how our future goes. If your professor gives you a bad grade in a class, your future boss will look at those grades and decide whether to hire…

I remember what it was like as a beginning freelancer several years ago. I felt a mixture of confusion, fear, and excitement. I wanted to succeed and make sure I did everything right. The more I thought this, the more paralyzed I became. The end result is that it took me a long time to finally get started. I realize now how counterproductive this really is. I didn't understand that starting my own business as a writer is a journey, and one that I needed to embrace. Once I started embracing it, I started to achieve real, measurable success. And, that success hasn't been without failure and without making mistakes. Here's what I'd do differently: Get Started Right Away It's easy to decide to be a writer, but much harder to actually get started.…
