Microsoft Word has many capabilities that can help in many aspects of work and personal life. The recent versions allow you to create almost everything from invitations to projects and papers for school. Understanding shortcuts and how to properly use them, can save you time and help you work more efficiently.

It is important to understand that downloading free music and movies, which are not meant to be free, is illegal. It is a type of stealing and just because some people think no one will find out, it shouldn’t be done. There are many downsides from doing this and I personally would not risk it. It is better to purchase songs on iTunes rather than risk spending more money on trying to rid your computer of all the viruses it can get from downloading music.

Concerning last week’s discussion and reading assignments, I would have to say some of the most interesting points to we were some functions and capabilities of Microsoft Word. I never know that one could insert a watermark into a document. This proves to be important when making up a mock draft of something and inserting a watermark to let everyone know it is a draft. That avoids the document being sent out without it being completed or adjusted. I can also see this in maintain the discreetness or secrecy of certain documents. By inserting the watermark of confidential, the recipient knows to not leave easily available for unauthorized viewers.

Concerning the discussion last week, I think we all learned a little more about piracy and its effects on the US economy. It was not until I did some research on the matter that I found that piracy steals jobs and dollars out of the economy.

It has come to my attention that employees are currently posting their comments and concerns regarding the company on Facebook and Twitter either from the company’s resources, or on their own time. Quoting this section on social media, “…personal opinions regarding the Company, should be wary of the danger that such opinions may imply inappropriate access to and dissemination of confidential, sensitive or proprietary information. Opinions concerning the Company that are expressed should clearly indicate that they do not reflect the opinion of the Company, its officers or management.” I understand social media is becoming a dominant force in advertising and expressing opinions, however you must be careful that your opinions do not help in destroying the company’s well known reputation. If you have a concern about the daily activities in your job, the best thing to do is approach management with your concerns and opinions in substitute of posting them on the internet. Our company values its employees and we encourage everyone’s opinions and suggestions because we are always looking for ways to make this company better. We would like our employees to have a trusting and open communication with management and feel that they can approach management with any type of…

Social media poses threat to all health care environments, if not used appropriately. I agree that the inappropriate use of social media does violate the code of ethics, the healthcare facilities policy and HIPPA. The inappropriate use of social media can range from posting information on a patient’s condition to checking Facebook instead of giving a patient insulin when their glucose levels are in the 200+ range. The use of social media at the workplace continues to pose a distraction to employees. Within the nursing practices studies have shown that social media has “the potential to cause distractions and interruptions. Several studies have implicated technology as a contributing factor in causing distractions and interruptions among nurses.…

The use of social media such as Twitter or Facebook is counter-productive in the workplace for a number of reasons. Firstly, it creates a needless distraction for the employee during office work hours, and can lead to some workers to become blasé about it. Secondly, the viewing of otherwise unappealing content on either Facebook or Twitter can make some people distressed, uneasy or annoyed, and could lower the productivity and attentiveness if an employee was to become affected by either comments or images posted on social media. However, to avoid employee dissatisfaction, social media should be allowed on lunch breaks, as some workers may have important news that they may have to respond to, such as news on a sick family member or spouse,…

Social media in the workplace would generally be regarded as unacceptable by an employer with the exception of a position that required this type of social media as a part of the everyday working expectation. Employers typically frown on the use of personal use of social media in working hours as this is detraction from the expectation of the employer’s requirements. Social media like Facebook during working hours should be minimised even during lunch break and tea breaks. Typically these times are an opportunity for working associates to connect in a real world situation.…

Social media can be distracting in the workplace. People are constantly checking their social media accounts throughout the day. People often find themselves using social media when they are supposed to be focus on their work. For some people it is hard to balance work and social media. In the article Examining Applicants Reactions to the Use of Social Networking Websites in Pre-Employment Screenings by J. William Stroughton, Lori Foster Thompson, and Adam W. Meade says, “The use of social networking websites has proliferated in recent years (73).” In recent years’ social media has become more a distraction to people in the workplace. Social media has become more of a factor in peoples’ everyday life which is not good. This means that social media is starting to take over peoples’ life.…

Social media has now become a part of our modern day society and has a huge impact on our lives on a daily basis. Social media is the use of web and mobile-based technology to support interactive content. This content tends to be user generated and then might be promoted by other users to a new outlet or audience. Social Networking is a great advocate of social media, where content is distributed amongst a network of online friends, which can then be reposted or ‘Retweeted’. Twitter and Facebook are the main social networking sites and have had a great impact on the debate of regulating social media.…
