Campus Life
As students move on in their lives after high school to college, many think that their lives will become paradise. With many house rules abandoned and without a curfew, students get the first taste of adulthood. Many think everything will be easy; however, from the dining halls to having no money students learn that being an adult is harder than parents display. Campus life shows students what they perceive is very different than the reality of life.
In my opinion, living on campus in a dorm, supplies a student the full experience of the college life. When I imagined living in a dorm room, I imagined a very small room and hardly having any space to walk around. However, the rooms are actually quite big. There is plenty of room to walk around and even play some crazy, goofy games with a roommate. I thought the most exciting part of living on campus was going to be able to meet new people and live in a new environment. Because I am so far from home, my biggest hope was having a roommate who was easy to get along with and could have fun, and I definitely got that. The bathroom situation, I thought, was going to be the worst part of living on campus. However, in reality, it is not as bad as I had thought. As a student-athlete living in a dorm where the entire floor houses athletes, the bathroom has a maximum of five people using the facilities at a time. This works because of each athlete on a different schedule. In actuality, living on campus is very exciting and there should be no worry considering the problem with space, meeting new people, or the bathroom being very full to the point of not being able to use it.
As an athlete living on campus at Western Nebraska Community College the athlete receives a dorm family. A dorm family is a family around town that “adopts” the student for the two years while attending the school. The family opens up their hearts and lets the athlete come into the family. The family attends sports events that the athlete

Lee described how her child grew up and “graduated” on time (par. 14). In her motherly aspect, this is positive; however, kids grow to be mature at different rates and the further mature kids do have an easier time succeeding in college. The mature college kids do not think of college as a time to beige drink, oversleep, or drive recklessly as individuals may label the college experience (par 10).…

Peering into an 8:00 am class full of freshman college students, many observations can be made. There are students with their heads down, (obviously still listening to the professor) students with their pencils racing, students with their minds wondering, and students with their attention to the teacher. As one might note, not all students have their mind focused on what they paid for. Some people go through college as a party or just because it’s become one of societies “norms”; others have a set goal in mind. However, if used to its best ability, college allows one to gain an advantage over high school diploma holders, by attaining the knowledge, skillsets, and tools to achieve or explore their career goals.…

The dorms that we live in now are far from the best. We live in a 10 x 10 box; well that's how it seems anyway. Our dorms have 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 closets, and a sink. We got lucky with the sink, but that doesn't make living in our hall any better than anywhere else. In the little rooms we also have to fit our TV, refrigerator and a microwave. With everything in place there is just enough room to walk around. One thing that causes problems in storage, storage in the dorms is very limited. We have an adjustable thermostat so we can control our own room temperature, but it often breaks and air conditioning goes out; that's no fun. We don't have bathrooms and not having a bathroom in our rooms is a pain in the butt. Why would anyone want to walk down the hallway at 2am just to go to the bathroom? The bathrooms in the dorms we have now are very unsanitary and disgusting too. I think bathrooms should be in all the rooms, just for convenience. All of the doors in our rooms have key locks and they do not lock behind you. Some people forget to lock the door and that often leads to serious situations…

Texas State University Residence Life (n.d.) policy on student housing requires that in order for a student to be eligible to live off-campus they must have obtained 30 credited hours or be over the age of 20. Although campus living is a first year college experience that many enjoy, currently sophomores, juniors, and even some seniors are allowed to live in these facilities even though they meet the requirements for off-campus living. This is raising questions among the students of Texas State University on the current policy and its negative effects. There are only enough dorms to house 5,745 students and that does not account for Residential Assistants, returning freshmen, and returning upper-classmen. (Texas State University Residence Life, n.d.2) This has generated a waiting list for the students who do not meet the requirements to live off-campus.…

Since I was a little kid, I loved to learn about anything I could. I think HPU would inspire me to do great things and learn a lot. I loved to read a lot, and observe the world around me so I could understand it. I loved to find out about things I didn’t know. I loved to find out about bugs and plants, and I especially loved to watch the stars and wonder about them, because they were the hardest to get to, but simultaneously the most beautiful. As I grew up, one of the people I began to really look up to was Neil Degrasse Tyson. He had grown up in New York, a place almost devoid of starlight, and grew up to be a very successful astrophysicist. He worked hard, and became successful in something he was passionate about. In HPU I can see the stars and learn about things around me and my environment. He works closely now with wonders of the universe, and is becoming a leader in his field today. His achievements, combined with his ability to teach others about complex information, and his want to bring the human race into a closer understanding of the universe around is, makes him a great man. It is his example that I like to follow, his determination and curiosity and love of knowing more, he lets his hunger drive him to discover new aspects of the world, knowledge that can help achieve something better in life. I've always admired these qualities, and I’ve always wanted to reflect them in myself. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve always strived to learn more in school and apply myself to subjects that were very enticing to me. I’ve always held that knowledge is power and I believe that my education is a huge part of that. The most exciting part about college, unlike high school, is that I get to choose what I’d like to learn about, which could also help me secure a better career in the future. I love so many different subjects, but I really like how science is a field where its advances can help people, and whatever career I choose, I would like it to be one that helps…

The glass is half empty and always will be, and that is how I view my life. Despite this, I am by no means a pessimist. Anyone that knows me, or has even come into contact with me would instinctively categorize me as an optimist, and an extreme one at that. So then how does this make any sense? Well, I believe the glass should never be seen as half full; full should never be used to describe one’s life in any way. Full would imply that there is no room for anything else to be added and no room for growth, but there is just too much this world has to offer to ever feel even close to “full.” I view a glass half full as meaning that you’re almost at the end, and then that’s it; you have nothing more to gain or experience, and therefore nothing more to work for. Half empty glasses allow you to have the opportunity to gain more; the gift of possibilities. Emptiness allows room for a healthy greed that grows into goals; for real drive and determination. My glass’s empty space forces me to constantly strive for more, to crave more. This is especially true for me in the aspect of learning. It’s something that occurs every day to everyone, and yet we tend to under appreciate the true greatness of the power of learning. There is always more out there just waiting to be discovered, explored, utilized, and conquer, and I intend to never see my glass as too full to stop filling it with that which I don’t even know exists yet.…

College is a big transition from High School. College is there to teach students knowledge, and to prepare every college student for the next chapter of their lives. Most freshman that go to Western Michigan University (WMU), decide to live in the valleys. “Valley residence halls feature suites where two student rooms share a connecting bathroom. These large, coed halls have a picturesque peaceful setting and are close to the Haworth College of Business, Intramural Fields and Goldsworth Valley pond” (“Residence Halls”). There are a total of three valleys that are about a twenty minute walk from main campus. There have been many problems with the dorms such as the noise, the size of the rooms, hygiene, the water, and the resident assistants.…

Last April vacation, my father took me on a trip to Israel to visit his friend. He said it would probably be the last time we could spend extended time together, just the two of us, seeing that college was only one year away. But to me, after a long cold New England winter, I was looking forward to kicking back at the Mediterranean Sea beach in Tel Aviv. But after I arrived in Israel, a series of events made this trip literally no day at the beach.…

College students usually go out of their house to attend University early in the morning and come back late after doing their work in the evening or night, depending on your schedule.
