FUNCTION OF THE EGG CELL:
The egg cell is the female gamete used for sexual reproduction. The egg cell is responsible for providing half of the genetic material required for reproduction. When the egg cell joins with the sperm cell.... The egg cell is large and bulky structure which allows the sperm cell to get in easily.
WHAT ORGANELLES DOES AN EGG CELL HAVE AND THEIR FUNCTION?
Mitochondria: Produces energy for the cell by a process called cell respiration.
Cytoplasm: All organelles inside the cell are suspended in the cytoplasm. The cytoplasm is mostly water which allows the organelle to move around. It fills the interior of the cell.
Vacuole: Are storage bubbles they store food, nutrients and waste. They also maintain internal fluid pressure within the cell.
Lysosomes: Contain digestive enzymes and break down nutrients, they digest excess or worn-out organelles, food particles, and engulfed viruses or bacteria. Rough ER: Are very important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins.
Smooth ER: Acts as a storage organelle and is important in the creation of steroids and the storage of steroids and ion
Ribosome: where proteins are made.
Golgi Bodies: The main function is to package and process proteins and sends it to other parts. They also make and secret mucus.
Chromosomes: Chromosomes are made up of DNA and contains genes.
Nucleous: is where ribosomes are made. They disappear from the egg cell during reproduction.
Haploid Nucleus: This nucleus contains only half of the normal somatic number of chromosomes.
Zona Pellucida: Also known as viteline membrane it protects the ooccytes, eggs and embryos. Supports the cell and controls entry into and out of cell. The cell membrane allows the sperm cell in.
Follicular Cells: Provides nutrients to the developing ovum for growth and maturation.

WHAT MAKES THE EGG CELL SPECIAL?
The egg cell has no centrioles. The egg cell has a lot of

is something that lets some things in and some things out of the cell. It is an outer cover for the cell. If the cell membrane was non existences the cell would spill all over the place. Its function is to protect the integrity of the interior of the cell by allowing certain substances into the cell, while keeping other substances out. It is composed of a thin, double-layered sheet of lipids, around the Cell and is a protective membrane layer around every Cell.…

Cell membrane- The cell membrane is a thin semi-permeable membrane that surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell. Its function is to protect the integrity of the interior of the cell by allowing certain substances into the cell, while keeping other substances out. It also serves as a base of attachment for the cytoskeleton in some organisms and the cell wall in others. Thus the cell membrane also serves to help support the cell and help maintain its shape.…

Some structures of organelles are membrane bound. The Plasma Membrane is a membrane boundary of a cell, and sorts cell transport and is the outermost cell surface. It separates the cell from the external environment. The plasma membrane is made mostly of proteins and lipids, especially phospholipids. The lipids occur in two layers (a bilayer). Proteins embedded in the bilayer appear to float within the lipid, so the membrane is constantly in flux. The membrane is therefore referred to as a fluid mosaic structure. Within the fluid mosaic structure, proteins carry out most of the membrane 's functions (prokaryote and eukaryote cell structure, 2000.).…

Each cell has a cell membrane it is also known as the plasma membrane which is a fragile, transparent outer boundary which forms around the cell to separate them from the surrounding environment (Marieb,E N, (2012).), the membrane allows what comes in and out of the cell. The structure of the cell membrane consists of two layers of phospholipids (fatty substances) with large protein molecules inserted completely into the layers. The phospholipids are an important component of the cell membrane as they form a lipid bi-layer which has a head that is electrically charged and hydrophilic (Waugh, A & Grant, A ,2012.) which means it is water soluble and arranges itself facing the outer surfaces of the membrane, it also has a tail which has no electrical charge and his hydrophobic (Waugh, A &…

The first level organisation is the organelles which collect together to produce a cell. The organelles all have a function in the cell to keep it alive. For example the mitochondria is an organelle in a cell which has the role of respiration in the cell. The mitochondria produces ATP which involves contracting muscles, taking part in cell division, transporting organelles and synthesising larger molecules into smaller molecules. Another example is the Golgi body which transport and store materials within the cell. Another example a nucleus, this is an organelle which carries all the genetic information for the cell to reproduce.…

Before this research it was thought that sperm were powerful penetrators capable of thrusting itself through the inner vestments of the egg. After much research, scientists in biophysics labs at Johns Hopkins University determined that the propelling force of the sperm is very weak, and that only through the adhesive molecules on the egg and sperm do the two stick. The zona acts as a “sperm catcher” and has to “capture and tether” the sperm before it can penetrate. But the most active and interesting roll the egg plays is that it “serves as a sophisticated biological security system that screens incoming sperm, selects only those compatible with fertilization and development, prepares sperm for fusion with the egg and later protects the resulting embryo from polyspermy.” Here the egg plays three vital roles in the developmental process of the embryo. It chooses which sperm is well-suited, sets up the fertilization process, and protects the sperm through the whole…
