Strategic Plan
Strategic planning is the organized process where an organization creates a plan to progress from its current situation to the desired future situation (Perera & Peiró, 2012). Further, it establishes decision-making criteria that will guide an organizations activities. Strategic planning is vital for healthcare organizations because it enables them to proactively plan for and respond to changes in their dynamic business environment.
Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, is a leading health care system in the US. The health care enterprise operates six academic and community hospitals, four health care and surgery centers, and 39 primary and specialty care outpatient sites (Johns Hopkins Medicine, n.d.a). The professionals at JHM educate medical students, scientists, health care professionals, and the public; conduct biomedical research; and provide patient-centered medicine to prevent, diagnose, and treat patients. This essay will examine JHMs current strategic plan to identify their goals, strategic thinking, stakeholders, and strategy.
