My Education Goals Essay
I’m attending Monterey Peninsula college on a short-term basis Until I transfer to a four year university. Education in my family has never been an option and I have always been pushed to further my education. I myself value my education because it will enhance my knowledge of whatever career I decide to pursue. Learning in general to me has always been important, I love discovering things I’ve never been introduced to or heard of before. Like Dr. Seuss once said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”. I chose to attend MPC to explore my options and figure out what career I want to pursue. One of my short-term education goals is to get good grades in all of my classes this semester (my first semester of college) and to create my ideal career plan. A long-term goal of mine is to complete all of my …show more content…
In politics today it is very important that us as a country understand and care about what’s going on. It enables us to be involved in our community and gain knowledge about how to be an active citizen. I think this is a good way to incorperate politics into our education system. I myself don’t know a lot about politics but definitely am getting a better understanding being in college. Americans should know what is going on in our country and should help contribute to it in a positive way.

Lastly, another purpose of higher education is simply just to learn. Even if you don’t have a plan or a particular job that you want to pursue higher education is always there to take advantage of and learn something you haven’t before. You don’t have to be a certain age, race, or religion. College is like one big community, we are all here for different reasons but one purpose and that is to learn. No one knows everything and there is always something new to gain knowledge about. That to me is the most beautiful thing about higher

More people than ever before are attending college due to the endless opportunities that it provides. Louis Menand, a college professor and the author of “Live and Learn: Why We Have College,” explains the meaning of college through three theories that have been developed. Theory 1 supports the idea of the sorting-out process that separates the highly intelligent from the less intelligent. Menand’s second theory explains that college provides opportunities for developmental growth, personal growth, and teaches individuals about the world around us. These are valuable lessons that will not be learned anywhere else. Theory three supports the idea of people attending college to specialize in a specific vocation. I am a firm believer in Menand’s second theory. I believe that college should enlighten students in various ways to make for well-rounded members of society, that college leads individuals to the path of self discovery, and everyone should have an opportunity to attend college.…

When we refer to politics and education, we have heard it mention and it’s not good. A lot of politicians want us to believe that they are concern for our children to receive a better education, but in reality they tend to forget. The purpose of politics is to help education improve, provided services where it is needed, and help students achieve their best; however, the reality is that it’s not happening “The people who suffered most from inequality -the poor, blacks, working class immigrants, the disable, females -had little influence over educational policy."(Tyack and Cuban…

Cornel West, summarizes his views on what the purpose of a college education is, at speech given at Bergen Community College. Most people feel college is just about getting a good job or moving up in their current job. Cornel West sees college on a deeper level. He believes that the main purpose of a college education is to unsettle people and force them into mustering up the courage to think critically and for their selves. He also feels that college should teach us to become less materialistic and self centered, looking for the greater good for the community over the good for oneself. Letting go of dogma and predispositions, so you can exam yourself is the most important part of education according to Cornel West. Although I do not agree with every one of West’s ideas on education, I do agree with the majority of them.…

To say that I dedicated numerous amounts of hours deciphering the purpose of why I’m going to college would be a lie. For years I have always thought that college is somewhere you just go after high school. I believed that it is only somewhere you go to start your career and in turn make a lot of money. In fact, this “purpose” is what has been institutionalized within U.S. citizens under this Capitalist system. We are told to go to college so we can get jobs where we can make money, buy a big house, start a family, and live the lifestyles we have always dreamed of. For a very long time this was my only goal in life: to go to college so I can get a well-paying job to afford the lifestyle that I want to live. I never put much thought into what…

What is the purpose to be a student in college? Getting into university regarded as the best option after graduating from high school. But not everyone has ability to finish up four-year course of college. Even graduated from university, it doesn’t mean the nice job and perfect income. “Each decade, 30 million graduate from high school but only 6 million receive a college degree.”(Buffenbarger) Part of them can not be accepted by college, and others drop out half way of university. Even though graduated from university, the number of graduated students is over the satisfaction of society, which means there are no enough vacations to offer to graduates.…

Do you have dreams? Well, I certainly do! I always had dreams of becoming a successful person in life, wealthy, working in a plush corner office, with all the trappings enjoyed by a senior executive! Now, dreams are good, provided we work on them, plan our goals accordingly, work towards those goals in a focused manner, and last but not the least, be passionate, motivated and persistent, in doing all it takes to achieve them. I would like to give below one of my favorite quotes by Mr. Paul J Meyer, which goes as follows. Quote: “Crystallize your goals. Make a plan for achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and other people's criticisms, carry out your plan.” – Late Paul J Meyer, Founder and owner of Leadership Management International. Unquote. One of the most important goals in my mission to achieve my dreams is to undergo formal college education. In fact, it is one of my most important goals. The ongoing paragraphs shall elucidate my thoughts on this. I shall first start with basic education, and its importance, before moving on to college education, and its importance to me.…

In 2014 I began teaching at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Martinsville, Virginia. It was my second year of teaching and I was eager, “prepared,” and confident. I learned quickly that this was unlike any school in which I had ever taught. Patrick Henry is a predominantly economically disadvantaged school which means, I was not as prepared as I thought. My first year at Patrick Henry was challenging and there were many bumps in the road but, I learned how to navigate them quickly. Teaching at Patrick Henry has been one of the most rewarding things I have done it my life. By obtaining my Maters in Curriculum and Instruction I hope to give back to a school community that I have learned so much from.…
