my happiest moment
We managed to get onto an unknown street, and it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, so we had no idea where we were. We traveled along the road for a long time, but we passed by a clearing to our right, and we saw the greatest set of dirt jumps that we had ever viewed.

Though it was getting late, a good biker never turns away from such an opportunity. So we checked the extremely high, almost vertical dirt mounds. All of them were practically impossible for us at our current shape and ability of biking. Except for one of the jumps that seemed absolutely possible, at the time. Ryan and I were really tired so we decided to get back home and just sleep for the day.

The very next day, we wanted to go biking earlier than most of the usual locals, so we left at 9 AM. We had to backtrack to get back to the amazing spectacle from the previous night, but our muscles were still sore from the day before. Ryan wanted to see if I could clear the only jump that was vaguely possible, in fact he dared me to try the jump. Obviously I could not turn down a dare, so I biked about 30 meters away to get some speed, I went off the jump at a minimum of 25 kmh.A moment in my life where I was proud of myself happened around the summer I graduated from high school in 2007. When I had finally graduated I could finally take a...

First, Joe got the keys to his dad’s F-150 , which was loaded with snow tires and a snow plow. Joe conglomerated the snow into one massive, 20 foot pile, far bigger than ever before. The in-run was as big as a two story house. Looking up to the in-run, the top of the pile glistened with the orange rays from the sun creeping under the mass of snow. After the in-run was finished, we took out the shovels and built another snow pile, which was a few inches taller than my five foot stature. The four of us spent nearly an hour sculpting the jump and grooming the in-run to perfection. Lastly, we built the landing by piling another mass of snow nearly 10 feet away from the jump. Before heading in for hot chocolate and dinner, we froze the jump so that it would harden overnight. We finished at 9 o’clock, so it was pitch black; I had no idea what the jump looked…

I was in over my head, way over my head. My legs were filled with lead, and my lungs were on fire. My heart was seemingly beating out of my chest, my breaths became labored and ragged. It was a warm February day in the year of 2007. I had invited my best friend Fisher to ride the bus home with me so we could ride our brand new rip-sticks together. Our whole day was dedicated to make memories by doing what we usually do, do stupid things. Our first two hours together consisted of first person shooter games, but we soon grew too bored and decided to spend the rest of our time riding our rip-sticks. We rode through the neighborhood looking for basic slopes to get the basics down before we put our lives on the line by riding down the steep ones. As we got more comfortable riding, we began to scout my neighborhood for the biggest hills we could find. I wasn’t all for the idea because I had just started baseball season the week before, so I denied every request that Fisher asked to ride down the hill. Hill after hill, Fisher began to get tired of me backing out every time.…

In the distance the mountains rose above the earth and stretched into the clouds, reaching for the heavens. Every day we would hike along a different trail, each one unique in its own way. There was one that was a bit barren along the way, but at the end there was a colossal sand dune that stretched from the top a cliff to the river below. People would climb up the steep slope just to run back down, frantically trying to keep up with the momentum of their legs. As I trekked up the hill, I grew fatigued and had to stop to catch my breath, wondering how anyone could make that journey more than once. When I finally made it to the top of the giant slide, I looked down to the bottom where the rest of my family waited. Before I could second-guess my decision too many times, I took off down the slope, feeling the wind rush against my face and through my hair. Sand whipped my face like harsh ocean spray, an exhilarating experience with a slight sting. My legs threatened to outrun the rest of my body as I hurdled downward, praying that I would be able to stop soon…

Adrenaline ran through my veins as I stood up and attempted. Instantly I fell and scraped up my knees. A little scrape on my knee was not going to bring me down. I got back up and tried again. I started going down the road and said to myself, “This isn’t that hard! I’m doing it!” Now this was accomplished because I was going on a straight road with no obstacles. The fun really began when I came across a busy road. I looked both ways and started off. I didn’t realize that going off the sidewalk to the road would be so difficult. I was never taught how to get over the bumps on the end of the sidewalk, so I fell and landed in the road. I dragged myself to the other side because I didn’t know how to get back up and a car was coming right for me.…
