Porifera
Porifera?
Porifera is a phylum under the kingdom of Animalia. Porifera is the oldest phylum in this kingdom and has been around for the last 600 million years. The most common organism in this phylum is sponges.

Porifera comes from the Latin words porus (pore) and ferre (bear), meaning "pore-bearer". This is a reference to the numerous holes (pores) on the sponge 's surface.

Characteristics of Porifera
 All organisms belonging to the phylum Porifera;
 Have no definite symmetry
 Have no organs
 Have no nervous system
 Are filter feeders
 Are multicellular
 Live in aquatic environments
What are sponges?
Sponges are a group of aquatic invertebrates (animal without a backbone). There are five thousand to ten thousand known species.
Sponges are multicellular organisms which have bodies full of pores and channels, allowing water to circulate through them. Sponges do not have nervous, digestive or circulatory systems. Instead most rely on a constant water flow through their bodies to obtain food, oxygen and to remove wastes.
Where can I find a Poriferan or Sponge?
Sponges live in many marine and fresh water environments. They can be found in rivers to oceans, from rock pools to great ocean depths, from icy arctic seas to tropical streams. You can find them in almost any aquatic area!

    The sponges considered to be an evolutionary dead end because they do not need to change in order to catch prey. The Oscarella carmela has six of the seven major animal signaling pathways (Schmitt and Taylor 2009). This shows that the sponge cells are advance as other animal cells. These creatures do not change because of the food source. Water currents provide microorganisms for sponges to consume, and the sponges filter-feed and collect the orginims from the current to gather nutrients (Schmitt and Taylor 2009). Sponges do not need to evolve to gather food in a better way. The sponge is a dead end because the method they develop works perfectly for millions of years, so they are never going to change. If the food source dies out, then the…

    Genes are the reason why everyone has a unique identity. They control everything from hair and eye color, to dexterity and voice timbre. When a baby is conceived, these genes from the parents combine and come together to form a new formation of genes and DNA. So what happens if something goes wrong? If something does go wrong, it results in a genetic disease. For example, if someone is affected by an autosomal dominant disorder, they have a 50 percent chance of passing the mutated gene to their child. (2)…
