How to be a responsible dog owner

There is a lot of time and dedication that goes into being a responsible pet owner. In this case the pet is “man’s best friend”. Dogs are the loyalist pets to own. However they require a very large amount of attention and love. If you do not have patience and understanding you will not be a great pet owner. Having this pet is like having a new member of the family. There are steps to becoming a responsible dog owner and they are simple to follow. It is very important to make sure that the dog has a clean habitat/ living area. The area that the dog lives in has to be fairly clean at all times. Poor living conditions cause odors and it is not good for the dog or the owner. Pest like bugs is effects of poor living conditions. This is not good for anyone, and no one wants to visit let alone live in that type of household. Keeping the living area for the pet is an important step in becoming a great dog owner. Every dog must be provided with healthy food and clean water. The dog must be fed well every single day. Aside from their regular dog food cooked chicken is a great meal to feed the dog. It can also be mixed in with your dog’s regular food for added flavor. Baby carrots are good for dog’s teeth. They are low in calories and high in fiber. Apple slices are also very good for a dog. The apples helps clean residue off a dogs teeth and freshens breathe. Make sure to take the seeds out before the dog is fed. Don’t ever let the dog consume something it is not supposed to. Next on the list is washing and taking care of your dogs coat properly. This is to protect your dog from ticks, fleas, and other bugs that might attract. Keep the dog smelling fresh and relinquish and bad odors that are lingering. Only wash the dog when necessary. If the dog is washed to frequently the skin will become dry and itchy. This will cause the dog to scratch and itch too much. Only wash the dog with dog shampoos and products. Others can irritate the pet’s skin and cause short term and long term rashes. Now here is where the most important steps come in. Once the dog is well trained the owner is able to take the dog out in public. Now accidents are prone to happen anywhere. If the dog so happens to have an accident in public the owner is liable to clean up after the pet. An irresponsible pet owner will leave the mess behind and cause problems for everyone else around. A responsible dog owner must pick up after their dog. This also applies for accidents at the home. Plastic bags are the most common way to pick up the waste. After the mess is picked up use household cleaning items to get rid of the smell. When out in public the dog has to be leashed at all times. If the dog is not secured it can run off or run away. This prevents the pet from jumping on other pets or worse other people. This can get the owner into a lot of trouble. The owner is even at the risk of having the dog taken away. If the dog gets let lose or is unattended there is a possibility of it biting someone or something so to prevent this always keep the dog leashed in public. Make sure to take the dog for a walk at least twice a day to physically and mentally exercise them. A tired dog it an obedient dog. Without proper exercise the dog will become bored and my develop behavior problems. These problems include hyper activity, chewing, and excessive biting. Once the dog has picked up these traits it’s not difficult to get rid of it. But if the dog has a long term of doing this the owner is doing something wrong. The dog should never be kept in the house or cage all day. You may visit the vet at least once a year for regular checkups to make sure the dog is healthy. Whenever the pet is not feeling good it’s a good idea to visit. Your pet’s health should be as important to you as your health is. Going to the vet can help check for numerous problems such as worms and other viruses the pet may be vulnerable to. Whenever you are not sure what is wrong with the dog it is always a good idea to go to the vet because there are things that we cannot detect. You cannot be classified as a responsible pet owner if the pet that is owned is always sick. Obedience is the biggest factor. The fact that the dog listens to the owner is a sign of respect. Train the dog to be a well-mannered dog and a family member. Now obedience does not mean striking fear into the pet. That is not the right way to raise the pet. No owner wants their pet growing up to resent them. Training a dog to obey the owner can be approached in many different ways. The owner can remain strict or approach it in my favorite way, which is having a reward system. Many pets respond very well to the reward system. Obedience will strengthen the bond with your dog as well as prevent and correct behaviors. This will create a well-balanced and happy pet. Next step to being a responsible dog owner is to keep the yard secure whenever the dog is outside. As the owner you have to make sure that the dog cannot escape in any way. Check for holes in fences and gates, especially if you have a small dog. Also if you own a young dog make sure it cannot reach any electrical wires or cords. Since this is the dog’s home it has to be the safest place for the dog to roam. The consequences for the dog getting out are the same if it was in public. The dog has the possibility of biting someone or something. The owner is again at risk of losing the pet. To remain a responsible pet owner the owner must keep the pet out of trouble. It’s a lot of time and dedication that goes into being a responsible pet owner. The dog has to be well fed, groomed and taken care of. The steps listed above are the bases and most effective to be a responsible dog owner. These same steps apply to many other pets. There is a large amount of time that goes into taking care of a pet. First the owner must be able to take care of themselves. The pet has to be maintained and kept healthy. It is not hard for a responsible pet owner to gain the respect of his pet. There is no specific order but the steps do need to followed to become a responsible dog owner.
