Cabeza De Vaca walked through swamps, deserts, and mountains, learned four different Native American languages, and was a slave to not-so-savage savages for over four years. He was a Spanish Conquistador who left Spain in 1527 to establish colonies in the New World, but as he was entering the Gulf of Mexico his ship was blown off course.
