Mrs. Rivera Functions of the Animal Cell
1. Strawberry Sour Belts- Cell Membrane: The cell membrane is selectively permeable to ions and organic molecules and controls the movement of substances in and out of cells. The basic function of the cell membrane is to protect the cell from its surroundings. It consists of the phospholipid bilayer with embedded proteins.
2. Nerds- Ribosome’s: When a cell needs to make proteins, it looks for ribosomes. Ribosomes are the protein builders or the protein synthesizers of the cell. They are like construction guys who connect one amino acid at a time and build long chains.
3. Jelly Beans- Mitochondria: Mitochondria are known as the powerhouses of the cell. They are organelles that act like a digestive system that takes in nutrients, breaks them down, and creates energy for the cell. The process of creating cell energy is known as cellular respiration.
4. Green Apple- Nucleus: The function of the nucleus is to maintain the integrity of these genes and to control the activities of the cell by regulating gene expression — the nucleus is therefore the control center of the cell.
5. Cytoplasm- Carmel frosting: the jelly-like fluid that fills a cell is called cytoplasm. It is made up of mostly water and salt. Cytoplasm is present within the cell membrane of all cell types and contains all organelles and cell parts.
6. Fruit by the Foot-Endoplasmic Reticulum: the ER functions as a manufacturing and packaging system. It works closely with the Golgi apparatus, and ribosomes. It also modifies proteins.
7. Yellow frosting-Nucleolus: The nucleolus’s function is to make ribosomes. The nucleolus takes up around 25% of the volume of the nucleus.
8. Pretzels- Cytoskeleton: It forms a framework for the movement of organelles around the cytoplasm, it provides the cells shape. The network consists of protein microfilaments, intermediate filaments, and microtubules.
9. Gushers- Vacuole: Vacuoles are storage bubbles found in cells. They are found in both animal and plant cells but are much larger in plant cells. Vacuoles might store food or any variety of nutrients a cell might need to survive. They can even store waste products so the rest of the cell is protected from contamination. Eventually, those waste products would be sent out of the cell.
10. Fruit Roll Ups- Golgi Body: A major function is the modifying, sorting and packaging of proteins for secretion. It is also involved in the transport of lipids around the cell, and the creation of lysosomes. The sacs or folds of the Golgi apparatus are called cisternae.

cytoplasm is a homogeneous, which generally clear jelly-like material that fills cells . The cytoplasm consists of cytosol and the cellular organelles , except the nucleus. The cytoplasm offers support for the cell. It allows the cells organelles to freely move throughout the cell. Movement is sped up in the fluid of the cytoplasm. The cytoplasm can also act as a medium for transport within the cell.…

Cell membrane is a thin, elastically, living semi permeable membrane so it controls what goes in and out of the cells. Cell membrane is also made up of two layers of lipids with protein molecules between them which are called phospholipids bilayer. The outer side of each layers is hydrophobic (water hating) while the inward facing lipid chain that touch the water are hydrophilic (water-loving). Phospholipids act as building blocks of the biological cell membranes in virtually all organisms.…

Rough endoplasmic reticulum- Rough endoplasmic reticulum is very important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins. Some of those proteins might be used in the cell and some are sent out. The ribosomes are attached to the membrane of the ER. As the ribosome builds the amino acid chain, the chain is pushed into the ER. When the protein is complete, the rough ER pinches off a vesicle. That vesicle, a small membrane bubble, can move to the cell membrane or the Golgi apparatus.…

Cytoplasm; Cytoplasm is the gel-like fluid inside the cell. The cytoplasm is about 70% to 90% water and usually colourless. It provides a platform upon which other organelles can operate within the cell; all of the functions for cell expansion, growth and replication are carried out in the cytoplasm of a cell. Cytoplasmic organelles are little organs that are postponed in the cytoplasm of the cell. Each type of organelle has a certain structure and a detailed role in the function of the cell.…
