My journey of life, if seen through the prism of History, would reveal how I have grown from a modest background in an environment of close-knit family ties, amidst the trials and tribulations of destiny. I consider myself fortunate enough to be brought up in a small town called Hiriyur. This, incidentally, acted as my window to see the backward aspects of a semi-urban lifestyle, bereft of the structural manifestations of urban opportunities. My upbringing in the company of four members, in a conservative atmosphere -- my parents, one elder sister has imbibed in me the spirit of togetherness as the means of progression in life. It taught me how we can overcome the most trying of circumstances, thereby enabling us to absorb the physical and more importantly, emotional causes of all our sorrow.

My parents even though they are doctors there has been no dearth of any financial constraints as the nursing home which has been the dream project of my parents did not go through and crack the puzzles of social life and financial aspects well. Owing to our financial constraints, I had to take up the job of a Software engineer in one of the reputed IT firms Infosys Ltd, even though I was interested to be an entrepreneur. Two years in my IT career helped me to improve my family’s financial status.
Presently my sister who is a doctor looking out for a suitable job in London and my brother in law working as a consultant doctor in one of NHS hospitals in London.
I am the epitome of a person whose career graph has undergone topographical changes -- continuously shifting from one area to another based on the evolving circumstances. In the process, I have re-set my goals in accordance with the career curves bending before me.

A new day can also liberate us from our past mistakes and provide us with a chance to change our ways. We are all faced with misery and misfortune at points in our lives, some more than others. Companies no longer hire people out of high school or college and provide them with career security for the rest of their life. This trend is a clear indication that you must take full responsibility for your life-long career success and satisfaction. Thus, as with any successful business, individual career management should follow the same process that successful organizations use in creating their business plans.…

In the early 21st century, career is a common term used to describe a pattern of work experience that occurs throughout a person’s lifetime (Arnold, 1997). This definition explains that a person has only one career but may have several occupations and a variety of experience. Continual changes in an individual’s career have been impacted by an increase in globalisation, advancement in technology and a change in demographics (Patton, McMahon, 2006). In order to completely understand the definition of careers and how important career development is, metaphors have been used to enhance this. The four main metaphors provided by Inkson (2007) illustrate a greater understanding of careers and career development which are: careers as actions, roles, relationships and a resource. The most effective metaphor that explains importance of career development is careers as relationships. Forming relationships and networking has become an important factor in people’s lives in order progress with their career. This will further be explained with a comparison to the other three main metaphors.…

I was researching Elmore Kittower’s murder in a California long term care facility. Kittower suffered prolong physical abuse by a nurse assistant. As I was reading several articles depicting the abuse Kittower suffered as a mentally ill patient, I became more passionate about my policy analysis. I was gathering evidence condoning the need for elder abuse prevention strategies in healthcare facilities. Engrossed in my research, I did not realize I received a text message from my mother. I nonchalantly opened the picture attachment only to see a horrific picture. It was a picture of my own grandmother, also a long-term care facility patient, with a black eye and bruised face that engulfed her entire cheek. My hands trembling, I held the picture against my computer screen which still cascaded the numerous articles covering Kittower’s story.…
