New York City

The melting pot, the city that never sleeps, the big apple. What do all of these things have in common? There are simply nicknames for one of the most exciting places in America, New York City! New York city is full of various forms of entertainment. Since, I’m from the small part of New York, Brooklyn. I am very excited in informing you all on one of my favorite places to visit. Once I am in New York City I never want to leave there. In fact, I visit New York City every time I get the chance and each visit I fall in love with it more and more. I actually hope to land a job there on Wall Street when I graduate college. Now whether or not you plan to make New York City your future homes. I think it is very important that each and every one of you plan to visit at least one time in your life, because there is so much that the city has to offer and you can see for yourselves what all the buzz is truly about. Today, I will inform you all on two aspects of entertainment in New York City, Broadway Musical and Fifth Avenue shopping.
The first Broadway Musical show that I saw was the Lion King. This musical is perhaps the most popular amongst them all. Critic Linda Winer, from News Day reported on January 14th, 2013, that quotes “This is a magnificent, wonderful, and jaw dropping show”. She continued to say the show and playhouse were enchanting and the production is worth every single penny. I recommend that when you do visit, you schedule a day to watch this amazing production and see how the vibrant colors and sounds bring each animal to life. There is many other Broadway musicals such as Wicked, Matilda, Wizard of Oz, Aladdin, Mamma Mia, as well as many others. Generally, when people attend these shows they dress in fabulous, trendy and fancy outfits. In fact, Broadway musicals produce an immense amount of money for New York City; they almost produce more money than the treasury

Yet there are two sides to New York, two very different sides when comparing it to class. There is Brooklyn, and there is the Upper East Side. The Upper East Side is where the beautiful models, talented actors live, and their children. Where just your last name can get you into events and parties. This is where the rich and fabulous live, and their children who are even more fabulous. Even though they live a great life, there are certain things that make being fabulous not worth it.…

After I finish a writing assignment and receive my graded version back, I learn what I could improve on. When just reading a paper in your head can spot errors, when you actually read something out loud word for word more mistakes can sometimes be found. When reading something out loud spelling mistakes might not be as obvious, but the general flow and specific word choices can be made clear on whether they are correct or incorrect. I had my dad peer review my presentation and discussion on the review of John F. Kennedy's City Upon a Hill Speech. He pointed out some mistakes, but didn't point them all out. I went back through the entire assignment and found more of the mistakes my dad had told me about.…

In the years before Oklahoma! was created, Broadway was dying. New and refreshing musicals were a rare occasion and when an artist tried to create something that he hoped his audience would like, he was sadly disappointed. Broadway was suffering from a lack of what it was revered for: astounding plays and musicals. Its time of glamour and glitz was almost forgotten, and was in need of being saved. That is why Oklahoma! is considered a rebirth of the American musical theatre at the time. It brought Broadway back to life, filling theatre seats with enthusiastic audiences who embraced the changes of this new theatre musical with open arms and made it a legend. Oklahoma! set new standards for classic American theatre by introducing new techniques of presenting the musical to the audience, introducing a new genre of music into the theatre, and strayed away from the usual classic form and structure of a musical that audiences had grown used to. It was a time of change, a time of excitement, and a time of setting standards for the future.…

In John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address, the author shifts from a powerful tone to an instructive tone by setting an example for other countries, inspiring the younger generations of Americans, and instructing his fellow Americans. Kennedy shows a powerful and tone when he says “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any for to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” Kennedy also shows a powerful tone to America’s young people when he states, “We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans- born in in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage- and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.” Kennedy then shifts his tone to instructive when he advices his citizens to “ask not what America will do for you- ask what you can do for your country.” Kennedy shifts from a powerful tone to an instructive tone in his inaugural address by setting an example for other countries, inspiring the younger generations of Americans, and by instructing his fellow Americans.…

I'm so glad that I had the chance to take my daughter to the Children's Theater yesterday. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe musical was fantastic! The actors had you completely forgetting that you were watching a play because it sucked you right into the story. I loved being able to see every one of their outstanding expressions and they were all fantastic. I was especially impressed by the young man who did so many voices in one play! The musical was above and beyond anything I expected and as always, I enjoyed the…

    4th of July Speech

In reading this speech I see the points Frederick Douglass is pointing to. When Frederick Douglass read this speech in 1852 he reminds us of the birthday of America's independence which at the time was 76 years of freedom. Frederick Douglass is proud that our nation was still young saying that our nation is only in the beginning of carrer. He then reminds us of a time when America was still under the rule of Britain. The people of America were under the English government and England was their fatherland. America's home government did make limitations and restraints in which our fathers differed with. They thought that the limitations put on them were unjust and unreasonable. They protested against this in a respectful and loyal manner because of how England was treating the American Colonies. In form of a resolution they contemplated that their united colonies should become Independent States and that every political connection between them and Britain should be put away. Our fathers have succeeded with this resolution giving us the freedom we have today in America. This made the 4th of July an anniversary day we properly celebrate every year. Patriotism and Pride prompt us to celebrate this day in remembrance of the Declaration of Independence. Douglass's words say to stand by those principles made by the Declaration of Independence on all occasions and places at whatever cost. Douglass then states the case that he is not included in the blessings of American freedom. He also states that the justice, liberty, and independence received by our fathers are shared by the audience but not himself. He then says that the Fourth of July is theirs not his stating that while they rejoice he mourns. This then leads him to discuss the subject of American slavery. He then talks about slavery from a slave's point of view. He says that America has never looked darker than on this 4th of July. Whether discussing about the past or present this nation showed a class of evil…

Stylistically, southern rap relies on exuberant production and straightforward lyrics incorporating car culture, fashion trends, nightlife, and unique lingo into the songs. Though many early Southern rap artists released their music independently or on mixtapes after having difficulty securing record-label contracts, today Southern Hip Hop has a large following with several Grammy award winning artists to their credit and has crossed the bridge into musical theater. Currently the sold out production of pop culture’s Broadway hit “Hamilton” Terry Teachout of the New York Times claims” Hamilton is the most exciting and significant musical of the decade. Sensationally potent and theatrically vital, it is plugged straight into the wall socket of contemporary music. This show makes me feel hopeful for the future of musical theater.…

Many people have heard the tale of the dotty grandmother who tried to dry off her damp poodle by placing it in the microwave oven. The dog exploded, sad to say the least , and Grandma has never been quite the same since. The story is not true; it is an urban legend, circulating by word of mouth since the 1970s (Brunvand, 108). Urban legends are popular stories alleged to be true and transmitted from person to person by oral or written communication. Legends tend to arise spontaneously and are rarely traceable to a single point of origin. They spread primarily from individual to individual through various communication, and only in atypical cases through mass media or other institutional means. Every culture has its folktales, including modern America. However, instead of involving gods and goddesses or princes and princesses, modern society's legends involve "some guy my sister's best friend knows" or "someone who woke up in a motel room." They happened, supposedly, to real people, usually recently, in a particular place. They touch the most sensitive nerves of human minds with ironic twists, gross-out shocks, and moral lessons learned the hard way. However, the most remarkable thing about these stories is that so many people believe them and pass them on. Why does an audience take the storyteller's word at face value, instead of recognizing it as an urban legend? The most obvious reasons as to why this happens are how the story is told to an individual, the relationship between the teller and the listener, and in the case of horror legends, the fear invoked through the moral of the story.…
