November 11, 1918 would mark Germany’s surrender as the kaiser fled to Holland, yet it was only the beginning of the quarrel between President Wilson and the American people over the Treaty of Versailles. Beforehand, Wilson had delivered the Fourteen Points Address to Congress January 8th declaring World War 1 as a moral cause and struggle for peace. Wilson mentioned fourteen points. Notably, the 14th point foreshadowed the concept of the League of Nations which would later be reintroduced as Wilson’s Ultimate goal to establish during the Paris Conference. Contrary to his goal, American liberal and conservative oppositions fought in regards to the Treaty of Versailles; created by the Big Four: US, Britain, France, and Italy, it would contain…
President Wilson’s arrived to the post-war Paris Peace Conference in 1919 hopeful to negotiate his “Fourteen Points,” which were the terms that Germany had agreed to sign the armistice for, into the finalized version of the peace…

A note reportedly sent to President Wilson by Prince Maximilian of Baden, the German imperial chancellor, in 1918 apparently requested an immediate armistice and peace negotiations on the basis of the Fourteen Points (Eaton,…
Was the death of one single man worth over 60 million casualties? Or was it Something more ? What was the real Underlying cause of the war that changed millions of lives? in the summer of 1914 Europe went into war with itself. It was a war that many expected to be short. In fact, it lasted more than four long, terrible years, taking the lives of millions of combatants and civilians. The Underlying causes of world war I were mainly alliances, imperialism and militarism.…
The first World War, The Great War, or what many like to call it, was an avoidable war that cost millions of military and civilian lives. The blood of both sides, mixed in the dirt and mud that soaked the uniforms of the sick troops, taking cover in trenches, praying to God that they aren't the ones to be bombed by the next mortar incoming; this barely scratches the surface when describing “The Great War”. World war 1 had many opportunities to end, however even if it didn't, it a least gave everyone in the world an insight on how terrible war is, and how its changed from the past.…
After the constitution was adopted by all of the states in 1789, uniting the states into one nation, differences between the states had been worked out through compromises. For more than 30 years arguments between the North and South had been growing. By 1861 these differences between the Northern states and the Southern states had become so great that compromise would no longer work. Thus, a conflict started within our nation that was called the civil war (1861-1865). The American Civil War was a series of political, cultural, and economic differences within the nation that when clashed, lead to a four-year period of hostility and instability. Although most media portrays slavery as the main cause of the civil war, it was really an economic competition within the two sections that created Northern determination to achieve its abolition, and Southern perseverance to maintain its institution. It is safe to say that the need for slavery was a product of the Southern plantation economy, thus, it is then safe to say that slavery was the result of an economic rivalry that tore the two regions apart, and incited the final flame of the Civil war. After reviewing the distinct economic systems by which each of the sections lived by, it can be better understood how slavery was not the direct cause of the conflict, but rather the most intense aftermath that overwhelmed, and broke apart the country.…
World War One was an extremely tragic war for everyone involved. As I would say about any war, there’s was no reason to get involved in the war, unless you had to. That’s why when asked the question of whether or not the United States should have joined WWI, I think we shouldn’t have. The United States should not have joined the war, not only because we had no substantial reason to fight in it, but also because the main reason we did indeed join the war was because we merely got caught in a sort of crossfire. The harsh environments and terms that both American and European soldiers had to deal with one up any impulsive reason to join the first World War.…
The underlying causes of World War I and U.S. efforts to remain neutral are: Imperialism, Alliance systems, Nationalism, Militarism, and Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.…
On April 2, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson asked a special session of Congress for a declaration of war against Germany, stating that "The world must be made safe for democracy." For three years, the United States had managed to remain neutral in World War I, which was wrecking widespread destruction on Western Europe. U.S. relations with Germany had deteriorated throughout that period, however, particularly as German submarines had torpedoed many American merchant vessels crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Congress adopted a declaration of war a few days later by a strong vote.…
The World War I was referred as the first “Total War” from historians and to others the “Great War”. The World War I was very tragic because of countries that were involved in the War. During this time Woodrow Wilson was the President, and he was the 28th President in the United States. Wilson wanted to keep the United States neutral during the World War I. This essay will explain why Wilson abandoned his policy of neutrality and justify American involvement in a European conflict.…
Signing of the Treaty of Versailles in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles in 1919.…
4. What was so ironic about the title of Remarque’s famous book about World War I?…
After the signing of the treaty of Versailles on November 11, 1918 to end the world war, there were many plagues upon the participating countries. The largest 4 countries (France, Russia, Germany, and Austria-Hungary) suffered over 50% casualty rate. The USA had casualties of 321 thousand, 8% of the deployed number of forces. Over 28 million casualties were suffered worldwide. Some researchers of the World Wars argue that there was just a single World War and that it was simply a small intermission between the two parts. This theory is that the treaty asked for an armistice. The definition of armistice is a temporary ceasefire between two opposing forces. In this definition, researchers argue that the armistice was ended when Adolf Hitler began the “Second” World War because the same parties involved before were involved in this war as well.…
The Great War 1914-1918 was universally destructive. The effects of these were seen in many areas, as in the destruction of human life and property, and in the political, social and economic fields. The evolution of capitalism and progress in the scientific spheres were also important consequences.…
