Growing up from the innocent elementary days, learning of the significance of who Christopher Columbus is, all the way to our not so innocent days of our high school years taking AP World History and AP European History, the youth of this country are presented with a particular version of the interaction and relationship between Native Americans (Indians as otherwise known) and the first wave of soldiers who settled on the Americas. Titu Cusi’s History of How the Spaniards Arrived in Peru however, provides a different perspective and a brand new insight in stark contrast to what is normally presented in most history books. The author being the “son of Manco Inca Yupanqui, natural lord of … Peru” (Yupanqui 3), recounts the story of Spanish conquest and colonization of Peru from the perspective of the Inca people mainly during the decline of his father Manco Inca’s last days of rule in his country and shortly thereafter.…

On the other hand the Roman system of Alimenta shares a great deal of similarities with modern welfare as it is currently known, the Roman Empire being the birth place of many currently utilized government systems. Originally Alimenta actually began under the reign of the first Roman emperor known as Augustus, at this time it was referred to as Cura Annonae which stood for "care for the grain supply", as the name would imply this particular system under Augustus dealt more with grain than financial status. The Cura Annonae focused upon attempting to provide rations of grain to citizens of the Roman Empire who could not themselves afford to purchase food for themselves or their families, this is the first recorded instance in history of a system…

Inanna is a goddess from the Mesopotamian culture. She is the goddess of love, welfare, and fertility. There are various art pieces the depict different gods or goddesses but one piece I found that involves Inanna is a cylinder seal called the Assur cylinder (Sumerian). This clay art was created in 3500 BC and was made in Susa in south-western Iran. These were normally located in various countries where cuneiform writing was used. Cylinder seals are usually made out of stone and have engraved designs on them. These would be rolled out on clay and would leave a back to front impression onto the clay. There were actually quite a bit of uses for these seals. The main use was for signatures and identified ownership. Cylinder seals can tell us a lot about what was happening during the time(s) they were created.…

    Indium Research Paper

    • 2125 Words
    • 9 Pages

A simple, precise and accurate solvent extraction method is described for the separation and estimation of Indium in geological materials. Solvent extraction of Indium from 6 M HCl medium using tri-n-butyl phosphate, selectively separates Indium from accompanying elements in different type of geological samples. Acid hydrolysis of Nb/Ta samples separates Indium from major matrix elements like Nb and Ta and the remaining elements do not influence the selective extraction and preconcentration of In and its subsequent determination by ICP-AES or flame AAS. The silica rich geological samples are decomposed by HF-H2SO4-HCl treatment followed by dissolution in 6M HCl before applying solvent extraction procedure. In Nb/Ta type of samples, Indium was separated from Nb and Ta by acid hydrolysis, involving fusion with Na2O2, dissolution in HCl followed by NH4OH precipitation and hydrolysis in HCl. The oxychloride precipitates of Nb and Ta are filtered off and subjected to solvent extraction using TBP. The proposed method has been applied to some international reference standards (IGS-33 and ASK-3) and to some Nb/Ta type samples and the results are compared by ICP-AES as well flame AAS techniques. The method is simple, rapid and accurate showing a relative standard deviation of 2% (at 170 μg/g) to 7.0% (at 16 μg/g ) and the method can be applied down to 1 μg/g and above.…
