Manual handling is a major cause of back injury. One in five people who suffer work-related ill-health has back pain. Legislation is in place to help to protect people. See if you can match the laws to the correct statements.

Task 2
Produce a fact sheet to explain the principles of moving and handling objects and people safely.

Moving and handling is a key part of the working day for most employees; from moving equipment, laundry, catering, supplies or waste to assisting residents in moving.

The moving and handling of people is a regular task in health and social care, which if not done safely, can cause serious injury to service users and staff.

When moving and handling the type and amount of equipment needed will vary according to the specific needs of care service users.
When providing equipment, providers should consider: the needs of the individual and safety of the individual and staff.
