1.2 Explain The Different Types Of Intervention Services
There are many different intervention services which include a variety of different resources and programmes that provide support to enhance a child’s development. These services are specifically tailored to meet a child’s individual needs and promote positive outcomes for children.
Psychiatrist
Before a child id referred to a psychiatrist a number of assessments are made on the child’s emotional wellbeing and development. When parents or teachers are concerned the child is referred and investigated by the psychiatrist of their emotional development. The psychiatrist assesses and monitors the child’s emotional and mental balance, and diagnoses the child. Social workers work with individuals who have family problems and help them to successfully lead a good normal life and improve their lives. Sometimes children may start school that already have a social worker liaising with them. Schools may also contact social workers if their concerned about a child for example they might see unexplained marks on the child or the child looks like their being neglected at home. The social worker will work closely with school and the parents to see what the underlying matter is and offer support and advice for them.
Speech and language therapist
A speech and language therapist is sometimes based in schools or outside in hospitals or health centres. They work with children and identify any speech problems and communications delays. Speech is a very important part of a child’s development and any delay in this area can affect the overall development of the child. Speech therapist work closely with the teachers they assess, plan, deliver and evaluate support for children. They offer advice in how to promote their speech, for example if a child has problems pronouncing words they advise on how to use those sounds and encourage to improve their speech.
