The most fascinating thing that I learned is that I always felt companies knew what they were doing and new their consumer behavior well, however the article shows that intuition is never enough. Thus observation of users and products in their environments is key to finding areas where new or improved products are necessary.…

The scope, funds, and initial idea for this project is already in process. The simplistic scope is documented as “Make this product better.” As well, the organization believes that this improvement will produce a strategic advantage within the market place. (University of Phoenix) I chose this scenario for two reasons. First, I connected to hit because it hits very close to home given my personal experience as a product manager. Second, I felt that this scenario leaves the door wide open for many risk identification opportunities.…

Although different products require slight variations in product development process, after thorough scenario and situation analysis (refer exhibit A and B), it is recommended that IDEO should ask Handspring to extend the schedule from 10 months to a more practical schedule that would allow them to follow their ‘proven’ five phase process. There will be some disadvantage by not having product in time for Holiday season. However when considering the downside of avoiding market study and diluting IDEO’s famed product development practices, we feel both IDEO and Handspring will loose a chance to introduce a successful product if compromised on the process. (Refer exhibit…
