Freud describes this as the Ego, the Ego is based on the reality principles. The ego unlike the id understands other people and their needs, and understands that sometimes impulsiveness can hurt in the long run. The ego makes it, its job to meet the needs of the id while taking into account the reality of the sitution surrounding it.
Around the age of five, the end of the phallic stage of developement occurs allowing the Superego to develop. The Superego is the moral part of us and develops due to moral and ethical restraints placed by our caregivers. THe superego's role is to control the id's impulse in situations whichi s forbideen in society, such as sex and aggression.
