10.1 Steps In Selection
10.1 STEPS IN SELECTION This concept is taken form module 12 “Human resource management”, sub-topic 1 “Recruiting and selecting”. Selecting is a process of choosing candidates who are fit for a position or it is a process of rejecting or eliminating candidates who are unfit for a position. In selection, certain standards are followed in order to know or to set principles in order to get qualified people for a job position.
Selection is a negative process because it entails choosing qualified people out of the candidates who applied for a job position. Not everyone who applied for a job position is selected, only a few numbers of candidates who meet the employment criteria are selected. Selection helps in proper placement of qualified staffs

The personnel department did their screening and those they felt were qualified were sent a message to come for aptitude test. I participated in the aptitude test and was called for an oral test to which I was also successful. I was called to come to the hospital for medical examination to which I did and had to go through series of blood test and urine test and after which the doctor also examined me. I was called upon the next week to pick up my employment letter. When I arrived to pick my employment letter I also had to submit my acceptance letter and told them the date I will be resuming duty. A booklet for condition of service was handed to me and I signed it after going through it. That was how I got selected for the position of a staff nurse midwife in my present place of …show more content…
In selection of staff for the position of a nurse, different people come to see the matron and submits application letter together with their credentials and curriculum vitae. Once there is someone who leaves the hospital the matron checks through those that had previously submitted application. They are screened and messages are sent to the selected ones for written exams after which the successful ones are called for oral interview. The heads of the hospital form different department deliberate together and gives approval on those that meets the criteria for the employment. They are called to come for medical examination and then appointment letter is given to them to start work.

10.5 SIGNIFICANCE TO NURSING PROFESSION Steps in selection helps the nursing profession to adequately choose candidates who will be able to render adequate nursing care thereby promoting the good name of the profession.

10.6 RECENT RESEARCH In a case study carried out in Hindustan coco-cola Beverage Pvt. Ltd, Gangyal, Jammu, India on recruitment and selection process it shows that the company spends a great deal of amount in hiring agencies to ensure that recruitment and selection of employees are well carried out. The company is succeeding and growing stronger because of the necessary steps they take in selection and recruitment process.
