Who knew that being on a boat for 10 days was so exciting! My mom, my dad, my sister, and me were at home. All of a sudden...my mom and dad announced that we were going on a 10 day cruise! We were very excited! We all started to pack up. Then a few days later, we drove to the cruise-line boarding station. It looked fancy. I was about to go on the first cruise of my life at age 4-5 on a Carnival Cruise Ship! And let me tell you...IT WAS A BLAST!!!

Well I went for a weekend she stayed a whole week. But I had a really fun experience because it was my first time tubing and my first time being in an actual boat and not a cruise boat. When me and my friend were tubing we would sing songs the whole time and argue about leg room on the tube and eventually push each other off because of the silly arguments. We stayed w1ith her family friends and they made amazing food everyday and they were all so nice. Almost every day me and Lynne would walk up to the store and get a loaf of bread and a coke or ice cream or whatever sounded good at the time and go to the end of the dock and feed the ducks. We named all of them but only remembered this all black duck with a white beak and we named him Castiel after her favorite character in Supernatural. Then we would just start naming the ducks, fish and other animals that we saw after people from our favorite shows. Like I was naming ducks after people in orange is the new black and american horror story. I had a really fun time but there were also some scary times too, we saw a rope swing and one of the family friends were on it and jumped off and his foot became stuck in the hole in the bottom and couldn't get off for a while. Then the next day his friend fell while getting off the boat and their tube came loose. But even with the downfalls in the trip, I still had a fun time with my best friend and it has…

I never realized how lucky I was to be granted such a stupendous life until I saw the poverty some people live in. Over the summer, I was fortunate enough to be able to take an ephemeral trip to Nassau, Bahamas. It was much different than I imagined it would be. I remember walking around and almost being frighten to leave my parents sides. There were natives on every street corner trying to con their way into you spending money on their fake product; there were people going through the trash looking for food; there were people sitting on the street with all their belongings tied up to their bicycle street. You could just tell this country was nowhere near as advanced as the United States. It was nothing like the pictures and it got me thinking of the gloomy lives these children will have to grow up in and all the opportunities that they don't have available here.…

One of the first instances that I can remember concerning cultural shock, was when I took a Western Caribbean cruise with friends. I was naïve and in my early twenties, traveling with three other females for spring break. We spent three days on the beaches of FL, and then took a four-day cruise that stopped at multiple Latin American destinations.…

Sailing is one of the only things that I have done since I was little. Ballet, I did that for a while, and then skipped that. My obsession with fashion designing, however, definitely grew out of it. Dora the Explorer, well, it would be weird if I still liked that. We still sail, and I had always heard adrenalin rushing stories of adventure on sailing trips or racing. I never thought I would live one of those, especially without my parents and even weirder, on a girl scout camping trip. Anyone who has been a part of Girl Scouts, knows that there is a safety rule for EVERYTHING. There are a safety rules for the safety rules, which is why my parents let me be a part of the trip with seven girls and a captain I and my parents had never met before.…

I boarded the boat thinking it wouldn’t be that bad. I was wrong. I stayed in the steerage for months. The steerage is the below deck part of the boat where the steering mechanisms are. It was disgusting, dark and cramped. Although we were under such conditions, I still managed to make a few friends. The sad part is I watched many of them get sick and eventually die. This one boy in particular fell seriously ill practically over night. He seemed to be in excruciating pain. I was lucky I didn’t come down with the same sickness.…

I have always loved going to the lake, but this time was a little bit different, we had a boat. It wasn’t a very big boat, but it was big enough to put a smile on my face. Not only did we have a boat, but we had a tube as well. Every other year I was told I wasn’t allowed to go in the tube; but after repetitive asking to ride in it my Dad finally said yes.…

Now, that we know little bit more about the history of my parents we can go ahead and discuss their vacations since they were young until nowadays. Since, they could not travel alone and hardly with friends, they usually spent their vacation with their parents. Moreover, Belo Horizonte is a city in the middle of the country, more specific in the Southeast of Brazil, so the tradition was to travel to beaches that they could travel by car. Therefore, every summer that in Brazil is in January, family get their children and go to city, for example, Rio de Janeiro and cities in the state of Espirito Santo, that is a state above Rio de Janeiro. They usually went by car and spent around 15 days on the beach. During the day they spent the whole day on the beach; at night they went to the season park, circus and fair. Almost every day they went to restaurant and eat typical food of the place and after the dinner all the…

I was lucky enough to be able to fly out to New York City, and experience things kids my age generally are not able to experience. It was amazing! Although we only stayed for a couple days, we were able to do much with the time we had. My family and I reached the top of the Empire State Building, walked about central parked, ate pizza, and much more. The hotel was beautiful, but we stayed in a tight room which my four family members and I could hardly fit in.…

I sat at the resort’s buffet with my mom, grandparents, and my brother, while we were relaxed and we enjoyed ourselves. I could smell the salt from the seawater of Gulf of Mexico, it was a rather odd smell, it smelt bitter, fresh, and clean all at the same time. The smell was somewhat pleasurable, and was very distinct. Every morning, in the resort, I woke up to the smell of it, which was something I definitely get used to.…

I can never forget the time I spent with Alan my best friend, with whom I went sailing on the lake during a terrible storm and spent many hours playing in the forest. We often spent the night in each other's houses. We stayed up late and watched movies or played video games. One summer I went on a cruise on the Mediterranean sea. Once on board I asked my mother to buy me a pirate suit with a plastic golden hook and a sword.…
