The short story, “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” by Walter Dean Myers, the author proves that the value of some items is often highly personal and cannot be easily understood by others when Lemon Brown tells Greg about his treasure, when Lemon Brown tells Greg about his son, and when Greg’s father lectures him about hard work. In “The Things They Carried” Tim O’Brien brings fiction and autobiography together in this story about the Vietnam War. O’Brien also uses a very unique style in order to give the reader more understanding in the value of the objects the soldiers carry by using the repetition of the word and instead of using commas. Although this style may seem glorified from an artistic point of view, the audience might find themselves skipping ahead the long repetitious lists. Luckily for the readers, skipping the lists will not take away from the story’s main point.…

Values are intangible ideals that you hold yourself up too. The dictionary definition of a value is “a person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life.” Valuables, on the other hand, are tangible items that you cherish, like a photo album or a stuffed animal. Even if you lose your valuables you still have your values. My values that I hold myself up to are: bravery, resourcefulness, hard work, intelligence, and family.…

From a young age, money has never been #1 on my list of lifetime goals and priorities. At the age of 8, value of a certain money became very treasured. In that year, my great-grandpa, a veteran of WW2, learned of his cancer. He also gifted me 7 freshly minted, (and in numerical order on the serial number), one dollars bills. You might say,” A measly $7?”, but that was the last gift I was allowed to receive from him. While not valuable monetarily, it was a gift that I view as special. When some of the drawers possessions that are precious to you, it is because someone who found significant sentimental value in said item gifted it, and those gifts are truly the ones to be treasured.…

I value many things that are in my life. These include family, friends, relationships, love, and compassion. I was raised in a family oriented environment with my parents, my aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Without these amazing people I would not be the person I am now. As I was growing up my family and I were never the most outgoing or social people around, so I learned to be very independent in the way I think and how I do things. I know what I think and I do not care what others have to say. I never have had a great deal of friends throughout life. Luckily I did find five amazing friends while I was in my junior and senior year of high school. Without them I would surely be lost. I value relationships and everything involved with them. I do not mess around with people’s emotions and “play” people just to get something, I search for good hearted people with good morals who are caring and looking for what I am. I try to surround myself with people like this to ensure a good life and a lifelong friendship.…
