It is 100 years since Bohr’s Model of an atom revolutionized physics.
To spur a nationwide interest amongst school students in the ongoing story of an atom, National Anveshika Network of India (NANI), an IAPT* initiative under the guidance of renowned Dr H.C.Verma of IIT Kanpur, is organizing a nationwide essay writing competition on “100 years of Bohr’s Model”.
On behalf of NANI, BVN-IAPT Anveshika invites entries from your school for the same. The details of the competition are outlined below:
A. General
1. The competition will be open for all school students up to standard 12. 2. The essay should be of about 2000 words and can be written in any Indian Language/English. 3. The essay can include the understanding of atomic and nuclear physics in 19th-20th century, historical perspective in which the model came, Bohr’s interaction with other scientists, Bohr’s original papers, later changes in Bohr’s model, Bohr’s role in developing Quantum Mechanics etc. 4. Textbook stuff and ‘cut paste’ from internet should be avoided.
B. Procedure & Timelines
5. Each school is requested to conduct its own competition and select the best 1% (rounded to the next integer) or the best 1 essay(s), whichever is larger. All the essays together with the recommendation for the selected best essays are to be sent to BVN-IAPT Anveshika by 31st July 2013. The first page of each essay should clearly mention the student’s name, class, email id and school’s name. 6. Out of all the best essays received from different schools, best 10% or 2 essays, whichever is larger, will be selected by BVN-IAPT Anveshika and forwarded to the NANI coordinator for National level competition.
