The film 13th by Ava DuVernay empowers and alerts the audience to the majority of the discrimination against people of color and especially black people that are victims of extreme predigest against them in so many different parts of life. The film does not signal out one or two individuals but singles out dozens of people in power, people who we think of as leaders, and huge organization that make laws for our country. DuVernays claims that we have not moved past the days of slavery and Jim Crow laws, instead we have just shifted and keep rewriting laws that have people of color in the crosshairs of a loaded gun. The United states claims to be the land of the free, yet we have 25% of the worlds prisoners, with only five percent of the world’s population. Among all the people who live in America black men make about 6.5%, however they represent over 40 percent of our prison system. The minority will always have to fight for equally…

Rabi’a al-Adawiyya is recognised as the first female Saint of Islam due to her major role in the early maturation of Islam, specifically, the expansion of Sufism. It was she who focused on a rigorous asceticism that required complete abandonment of ones worldly pleasures in order to detach one from the fear of hell and enter the passionate love and devotion for God. Her belief in this notion “Muhabbah” (Divine Love) and her dismissal of materialism became a strong prestige throughout her teachings and poetry. Additionally, her incomparability from the traditional female ideology of the time period challenged the specific roles of gender as delineated by Islam. It latter became widely accepted within the Sufi movement that women had gained a greater role within the religion due to Rabi'a's actions and influences.…

To help us understand religion better, Ninian Smart formulated the seven dimensions of religion, which can be identified in all religions. The practical and ritual dimension covers the practical portion of religion. The important experiences of the founders of religion as well as their followers are explained in the Emotional and Experiential dimension. The stories within each religion are also important as expressed in the Narrative and Mythical dimension. The Ethical and Legal dimension constitute the codes of behavior whereas the Doctrinal and Philosophical dimension refers to the belief system found in each religion. The last two dimensions, Social and Institutional, and Material refer to the incarnation of religion in social and material forms respectively.…

Within 12th and 13th century Islam, the role of women was extremely controversial. A large majority of Muslims in the time period saw women as inferior beings when compared to men. However, new thoughts on gender equality within Islam began to emerge with the writings of Sufi scholar Muhammad b. Ali b. Muhammad Ibn al-Arabi al-Ta’i al-Hatimi. Ibn al-Arabi’s thoughts concerning Islamic women within the 12th and 13th centuries drew much attention from the Islamic community. This attention was originally seen as heresy, and many responded with hostility as well as the denouncement of Ibn al-Arabi’s faith. However, Ibn al-Arabi’s arguments are largely based on Qur’anic texts. Even in some modern day Islamic societies, women are seen as lesser beings, but by delving into the work of Ibn al-Arabi, as well as texts from the Qur’an, the role of women can be asserted as a major piece of Islamic authority and spirituality.…
