The olympics has moved all over the world. Starting from Athen all the way back to Rio de Janiero. They have been to Athens, Paris,St. Louis, London, Stockholm, Antwerp, Paris, Amsterdam,Los Angeles,Berlin, London, Helsinki,Melbourne, Rome,Tokyo, Mexico City, Munich,Montreal, Moscow,Los Angeles, Seoul,Barcelona,Atlanta,Sydney,Athens,Beijing, London, and Rio de Janiero. Although the ancient Games were staged in Olympia, Greece, from 776 BC through 393 AD, it took 1503 years for the Olympics to return. The first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896. The man responsible for its rebirth was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who presented the idea in 1894. The games occur in a different host country every four years so as to give the nations of the world a chance to host the games and to show themselves off. It also takes the stress off a country as they don't have to constantly pour money into their facilities and to prepare for the next four years. The Olympic Games are held every four years in tribute to their ancient origins. The original Olympics were held at Olympia every four years. During this period, the passing of time was marked by "Olympiads," which refers to the four-year span between Games. Even the winter olympics have moved all around the world. Only men were allowed to compete in the ancient Greek games. Athletic training in ancient Greece was part of every free male citizen's education. The first woman to compete in the Olympics were Marie Ohnier. They participated in croquet games in the 1900 Olympics. Hélène de Pourtalès became the first female Olympic champion as part of the winning team in the 1-2 ton sailing event. Charlotte Cooper was the first woman to win an individual Olympic event after winning the women's singles tennis competition. She later went on to win the mixed doubles tournament. Women were second-class people, like slaves and foreigners. Only free-born male Greek citizens were allowed. Women weren’t even allowed to watch the games. Competitors from 11 to 16 different nations participated in the inaugural 1896 Games, in Athens. Eleven nations Australia, Austria, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States are mentioned in the official report for the Games and the International Olympic Committee states that 14 nations were represented. In 1896 there was 14 nations participating and 241 athletes participating.In 2016 there was 207 nations participating and 11,237 athletes
