Oceania has a major censorship problem, to the point where its citizens can be detained and even killed without trial for having thoughts that disagree with the Party’s ideology. Therefore citizens are unable to think freely and develop provoking thought about the issues around them. In 1984 the party bans any anti-government ideology that occurs in the media or in people’s thoughts. They use thought police to regulate the way people express themselves and they use the ministry of truth to control newspaper articles and other media. This type of manipulation is prevalent in areas around the world such as china.
