Orwell’s 1984, modern day United States exemplifies the systematic control depicted in the novel, due to the prevalence of the NSA, the control over marriage and the false information given to the people.

They have ways to exist our social media accounts and deleting unwanted information. So the modern day society, if not the same, is near reach of the society in 1984.
Even though the two societies aren’t completely similar, there are still some things that relates to the novel. For example, the government in 1984 restrict the citizens from marrying those they are physically attracted to, so they are forced to marry those provided for them. It’s not that our government chooses the people we marry, but they still restrict some people from marrying each other, in reference to the gay community. There are still states restricting those right from the citizens.
In 1984, the government’s ministry of truth rewrites history, and also creates false warfare to keep the citizens of Oceania afraid. Like the novel, our government keeps information from the people. There is a lot about the world that we may know a snippet of it, enough to keep us trusting our protection, yet there are probably so much we may not know. It is a way for the government to keep control, to lead us to believe in what they want us to believe, which is exactly what the government in 1984 believed
