1984 Winston Smith Diary Entry

I wrote a diary entry by Winston Smith, the main character of the novel 1984 written by George Orwell. Describing a dystopian world, the author tells a story of a rebellious citizen of Oceania, a country with a totalitarian regime. In this entry Winston reflects on the time he and Julia, his secret lover, meet O’Brien, the Inner Party member, who is, in Winston’s opinion, a member of Brotherhood, an organization that opposes the Party.
Writing a diary entry by Winston, I tried to express his thoughts on this extremely important event, using his style of writing and speaking. Writing from Winston’s perspective, I used a specific vocabulary with word choices like “thoughtcrime”, “unperson” and “telescreen”. Using these elements, I hope that I
have accomplished the goal of showing what thoughts, worries, and fears a rebellious man might have.
The diary mostly addresses the topic of Social Relationships, but besides that it touches upon topics such as Communication and Media and Science and Technology. The reason why I decided to address these topics using a diary entry is that Winston Smith, the character that interests me the most, experiences difficulties in trusting people around him in these kind of conditions.
