1) The main issue is that there is a new Facebook feature that allows others to share someone’s post. The creator of the post has “zero control over which posts friends promote” (Guynn). For a $7 fee, friends can “repost” statuses, leading to a lack of privacy; due to the fact that hundreds or maybe thousands of people you do not know are reading your post.
2) According to Facebook, “this feature respects the privacy of the original poster- i.e. it will promote to everyone who originally saw it. You can only promote posts to the people that your friend originally shared with. If you have mutual friends, they’ll see that you shared it and promoted it” (Guynn). However, privacy watchdogs say that this new feature is an example of
Facebook trying to control users’ information to earn money.
3) The corporation, Facebook, is implementing this idea. To Facebook, this new feature is something that “there was demand for” (Guynn). This feature was supposed to be beneficialspreading ideas about charity, starting a new job, etc.
4) I disagree with Facebook. This feature “turns friendship into an opportunity to make an extra buck” (Chester). I believe that the user should have control over data and information, not the corporation. 5) In 1984, the government is watching the society’s every move. This article is related to the novel because in some way, people are all being controlled and watched over. According to another article, Facebook is allowed to use one’s information such as pictures, for advertisement.
I believe in individualism, and that everyone has their own mind and space.
