Jennifer Finney Boylan wrote “In the Early Morning Rain” which describe the experiences where she realized who she became.As a man, Jennifer married to Deirdre “Grace” Finney and had two children,but he felt the tug of the female identy. Jennifer is a Transgender, she is easily mistaken and mistreated by others who judge others quickly. She left home in search for answers for who she is. She wants to figure herself out and where she belongs in life.
Jennifer Finney begins her story leaving home and in search of a place where she doesn't have to see anyone. She drove to the town of Nova Scotia and took a ferry and watched America drift behind her. She took a pic with a person dress in a bunny costume, who she later realized that she couldn't tell if that person was a boy or a girl. It showed that she had a hard time telling the difference between the genders. She later left and drove to Cape Breton. During the car ride, Jennifer played the Song “ In The Early Morning Rain” sang by Warlocks, reminded her about a girl, Grace Finney. (81). Jennifer can relate this song to “Grace” Finney, because Grace is Jennifer’s wife. The song was written by Gordon Lightfoot, is about a traveler that misses a love one but lacks the means to make the trip back home (81).Jennifer was that traveler that misses her love one, Grace Finney, but couldn't go back without knowing who she is. She was filled with many questions, but left with no answer. She founded a motel and decided to stayed for a night. As she looked in the mirror of the motel, she saw a perfectly normal looking young woman.”This is soo wrong, is this the cause of all my troubles ” she said to the mirror (82). She started to realize that the person in the mirror was who she wants to be, but she still saw herself as a man. The next day she decided to hike on top of a cliff to clear her mind.
