Feliks Skrzynecki, composed by Peter Skrzynecki, is an affectionate, yet puzzled poem of the persona’s father, as seen through the eyes of the composer. The first stanza beings with the line, ‘My gentle father’ showing the reader that not only does this show some sort of affection and admiration the composer had for his father, but also some detachment. In the verse, it states the father’s devotion to his tasks stems from his sense of belonging to his garden; ‘Loved his garden like an only child’. This this tells the reader that his father took pride into his garden as if his son was merely nothing. Showing a strong connection lost between son and father. “Spent years walking its perimeter”, perimeter may represent some sort of boundary or barriers that the composer’s father had to face or endure endless loneliness.…

    1. Feliks Skrzynecki is a poem about the authors (Peter Skrzyneckis’) stepfather. The poem demonstrates the strong feeling of belonging Peter feels with his family. However it also expresses the detachment Peter feels from his cultural heritage. This is shown in the lines ‘Remnants of a language I inherited unknowingly’. The use of first person (‘I’) through out the poem is used to show the perception that Peter has of his father, and how he always compares himself to his father. In stanza 3 we get the sense that Peter does not feel as if he belongs with his father and his fathers’ friends, ‘That formal address I never got used to’. The entire poem reveals a sense of regret from Peter, perhaps for not having to deal with the war and other difficulties like his father, as well as regret of losing his Polish heritage.…

    IPC Mens Rea

    • 5704 Words
    • 23 Pages

Mens rea is a technical term, generally taken to mean some blameworthy mental condition, the absence of which on any particular occasion negatives the condition of crime. It is one of the essential ingredients of criminal liability.’ A criminal offence is committed only when an act, which is forbidden by law, is done voluntarily. The term mens rea has been given to the volition, which is the motive force behind the crinjinal act.2 An act becomes criminal only when it is done with guilty mind. Ordinarily, a crime is not committed, if, the mind of the person doing the act is innocent. There must be some blameworthy condition of mind (mens rea) before a person is made criminally liable. For instance, causing injury to an assailant in private defence is no crime but the moment injury is caused with intent to take revenge, the act becomes criminal. However, the requisite guilty state of mind varies from crime to crime. What is an evil intent for one kind of offence may not be so for another kind. For instance, in the case of murder, it is the intent to cause death; in the case of theft, an intention to steal; in the case of rape, an intention to have forcible sexual connection with a woman without her consent; in the case of receiving stolen property, knowledge that the goods were stolen, and in the case of homicide by rash and negligent act, recklessness or negligence.…
