The United States government sends the USS Abraham Lincoln to search out and destroy this monster. On board the USS Abraham Lincoln were famous French marine biologist Pierre Aronnax along with his sidekick, Conseil. Also, a harpooner, named Ned Land. The expedition starts in the Atlantic Ocean. After a time passes with no sight of the sea monster, they finally see the creature in the Pacific Ocean. The vessel chases it, but the monster is too fast. During the chase, the USS Abraham Lincoln is damaged and the three men fall overboard, Aronnax, Conseil and Land. The three men find themselves on top of the mysterious creature, which is actually a submarine, the Nautilus. They are taken on board and placed in a cell. The men meet Captain Nemo, the commander of the vessel. Captain Nemo was very friendly to his guests. Not only were all three of the men guests but prisoners. Nemo did not allow them to leave. The reason Nemo created this vessel was to escape from the real world. He says that he wants to live his life alone away from all the mischief and die peacefully. The submarine is powered by electricity and can easily out maneuver any ship. They spend the next year traveling the world underwater. While on this adventure, they get trapped under an iceberg. After one year on the submarine it is finally in the North Atlantic. The vessel is attacked by a giant squid! The crew tries to kill it with axes and spears eventually driving the squid away. After that, the vessel gets trapped in a whirlpool and they use this opportunity to escape. Land, Aronnax, and Conseil take the small boats that they find on the Nautilus and paddle to Norway while Captain Nemo and his crew die along with the vessel as it sinks to the

The journey of a ship's crew taken hostage by an eccentric submarine captain, in a time when the cast-iron monster baffled the educated mind. "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" is a classic that combines the inventive mind of the author, Jules Verne, and modern technology to create a psuedo realistic world that paved the way for the steam punk genre. It entrances the human's unquenching desire for discovery at every turn. Although having a superb storyline, I find that at a few times the amount of scientific nomenclature bogs down the storyline with long monotonous passages. This has a few of its own advantages but often has its own drawbacks.…

The literary device used was flashback with a cliff hanger ending. Michael Bruce started the setting in a courtroom, where the five surviving characters recalled the details of the past event. This is where the flashback took place to present the actual event. Once we see the events in the submarine, we are taken back to the present to view the court hearing. The final scene in the story is a cliff hanger, as the gentlemen are left to decide a verdict, of which we do not learn.…

The movie depicts author Herman Melville coming to a sailor to listen to the factual tale of what occurred aboard the ship, the Essex. It demonstrates the consequences of ego, and has some extreme action, profane language and mentions cannibalism.…
