22nd Amendments
Najla bin saleh
July -3-13

The constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the United States of America. However the constitution has 27 amendments, bill of right is the term for the first ten amendments to the United States constitution in 1791. Also seventeen for subsequent amendments and ten for the unsuccessful amendments. However the 22nd amendment is so important in the United States constitution. The 22nd amendment was passed and ratified in 1947 and 1951 respectively. The amendments came from Hoover constitution of 1947. The purpose of the 22nd amendment was posted to limit the number of the terms that the president could serve. The amendment is to proof that “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of the president, or acting as President, during the term within which the article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term” I mostly agree that the 22nd amendment need to be a law in United States because of many reasons first of all to avoid what happened when Roosevelt was president. Roosevelt Franklin Delano 1882- 1945 32nd president of United States 1933-1945. Roosevelt served for longer time than any president total of four terms. The 22nd amendment to constitution of the United States, passed after his death, denied the right of any person to be elected president more than twice. However Washington had been asked to run for a third term in 1796.George Washington had wanted to do like Roosevelt but the constitution rejected.

The first eight amendments in the Bill of Rights were intended to protect Americans ' specific personal rights. The Founding Fathers recognized the importance of these rights and fought so that the people in the United States would have the independence that no other nation had known. These same men were well aware of the unavoidable sacrifices they were going to have to make. Listing every right that a person should possess was impossible to fit into ten amendments. Therefore, congress made the final two amendments in the Bill of Rights to be an all inclusive statute in an effort to prevent the United States government from discovering a loophole and gaining too much power. The Ninth and Tenth Amendments are the final two statutes in the Bill of Rights which outlines the limited control of the government and even more importantly the power of the people.…

Ellie started with Aristotle and described his six forms of government. She wanted to repeal the 22nd amendment that limited a President’s term to eight years total. She talked about checks, circumstances, and qualities. Ellie started to point out what might their opposing team would say: “One shall not hold ALL the power”. However, she rebutted the claim by saying, “If the Americans want a President to stay for sixteen years then he should ought to people, by the people, for the people”. She used Franklin D. Roosevelt as an example on how 22nd Amendment should be repealed. FDR helped the U.S out of depression, which took him four terms to do. Ellie argued that he would not be able to do it if he only served for two terms. Also, it could not happen if we have two different conflicting ideas.…

The idea that term limits would go against the constitution is not a true fact. Term limits were proposed during the formation of the American democracy by Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. They proposed this to try and “eliminate the possibility of any tyranny that could come from being in office to long, and considering the fact that they had just won the freedom from Great Britain and King Louis the XVI”. This idea of term limits has been around for some time in the United States and has been addressed as far back as ancient Greece and Rome. There is no evidence that has been found during the research for this essay that said anything about term limits ever being instated in ancient Greece or Rome, but that is not to say that it did not happen even if for a short period. Term limits have been instated in multiple states. Fifteen have term limits in effect and Florida just passed a term limit law. The six states that had term limits have had…

House of Representatives, made 19 amendments to add to the Constitution. On September 25, 1789, Congress adopted 12 of the amendments and then sent them to the states for ratification. Ten out of the twelve amendments were accepted and called the “Bill of Rights”. They were ratified and became a part of Constitution on December 10, 1791. The Bill of Rights provides basic protection as an American citizen. For James Madison helping writing the drafting of the Constitution he became the “Father of the Constitution”. To today, there have been hundreds of proposed amendments to the Constitution. However, only 17 amendments have been ratified in addition to the Bill of rights making only 27 amendments in…

In approaching the 22nd amendment of the Constitution, I strongly feel that it should be left alone because either President Clinton or Bush should be allowed to run for more than two terms. Having an unlimited number of terms is very excessive. People would become tired of the same president for years and years. This allows prohibits those who don’t support the president to have the same person, with the same ideas run the country for years on end. Congress would be tired of working with the same president so little would get accomplished. The 22nd amendment was put in place after Franklin Delano Roosevelt was president for four terms. Since he ended up dying during his four term congress created the amendment limiting a president to only two terms. By adding this amendment to the constitution, it prevents the president from causing corruption and becoming senile as they become older. I also don’t agree with idea of having a president only be able to serve one term that last six years because that would be a very lengthy amount of time for only one term. Holding an election every six years seems like too long a time to get the opinions of new generations. Elections measure the opinion of the public, so holding election every six years wouldn’t be an accurate representation of our country as a whole. Having a term be four years allows the people to vote for other candidates if they don’t support the current president or their beliefs have changed. It also allows us to keep the same president for another 4 years if they are a good leader for the…

I think that this amendment is important because it allowed the people of each state to choose who would represent their state in the U.S. Senate instead of state legislators choosing who would represent their state. I also believe it provides a way for the states to fill a senate seat that became vacant in the middle of a term. If the people didn’t vote who the senator was and the government did they would pick people off of their own needs, which would probably lead to…

The founding fathers created the US government to be one of limited power and rule by the people. This rule by the people was meant to prevent a singular person from wielding all the power. Term limits would limit the amount of time in which a representative could rule, preventing any one person from remaining in power. Furthermore, political author George Will (1992) writes, “term limits were included among the 15 resolutions of the Virginia Plan submitted to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia,” but weren’t included in the constitution because the measure was considered too detailed (p. 2). Lastly, no constitutional law expressly outlaws term limits.…

George Washington, our first president, knew that everything he did would be a guide for America to follow after his time as president ended. He was one of the fathers of the constitution and was looked at as a guide for democracy. So when he declined the offer to run for a third term as president it set a precedent that presidents since have all followed, with the exception of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Following Roosevelt’s Presidency, in 1947 the twenty-second amendment to the constitution was passed, officially limiting a president to serve no more than two terms.…
