Should the incarcerated have the right to vote while imprisoned? If so, based on what amendment? Should those who have served their sentences continue to have their right to vote restricted? Prisoners should be entitled to vote it is unjust to have it taken away from an individual because they have committed a crime. These individuals are still citizens and not everyone that’s incarcerated is guilty. Voting would make these people feel as if they’re a part of something bigger rather than themselves. While incarcerated, they lose most of their freedom; they shouldn’t lose all of it. If prisoners were denied the right to vote when they’re released into society they will not respect their authority or laws. If letting prisoners vote it can strengthen their ability to want to participate in society, do well and feel like they’re an essential part of the community. This alone doesn’t only benefit the incarcerated individuals, but also the politicians running. The 15th amendment states “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude”. These individuals are citizens despite their wrongdoing. In different amendments for instances the 19th amendment gave women the rights to vote. The 15th amendment gave slaves the rights to vote but in all reality inmates are individuals who are known to be our generation slaves so why can’t prisoners vote they should have the opportunity to vote.

I think a convicted felon should have the right to vote after they spend their sentence in prison and finish with parole. I will give you three reasons why they should. My first reason is they are citizens like us and they might not be guilty. My second reason is ever though there not out and free they do watch TV to see what’s going on. My final reason is if it was polices officer or a famous person they still are aloud. The next paragraph I will tell you about my first reason.…

According to the law, everyone is entitled to vote, to be specific, the age of 18 and above. I believe felons should be allowed to vote because people make mistakes. There are many people who want to live right, they can’t because they are being kept down, the situation they’re in leads them to be in a bad place. For example, if a person commits theft, it’s most likely they’re poor. He/she steals because they are desperate for what they don’t have; basic needs or necessities of life. I believe felons should be allowed to vote, even if they are criminals, they deserve a second chance, it is not fair to take away their right to vote. This is as if like taking away their freedom of speech. Everyone has a voice and it should stand out, even if…

Felons should not be able to vote because they have already waived that right by committing a serious crime. These criminals might as well be considered children for the foolish mistakes that they made. Their chance has passed to make a positive difference in the country. There are too many felons in the country for the elections to not be swayed. The people of America do not want the fate of their country in a group of felon's…

Voting is a duty that must be fulfilled by every citizen at some point in their lives. Voting gives the citizens of the U.S. a chance to express themselves through an anonymous voice. There are a few restrictions on voting, which include age, citizenship, and in some states weather you’re a convicted felon. I believe that it is unfair that some states make it so felons can’t vote. I really believe felons should be allowed to vote simply because everyone makes mistakes, and some felons have to rejoin society eventually.…

This is more reasonable that a felon does have the opportunity to restore their voting rights but the process is difficult. There is a whole process with laws surrounding disenfranchisement and it is difficult to determine whose rights can be restored. The process is so lengthy and daunting that ex-felons would probably give up even trying. If you are going to give someone the privilege of restoring their right, then why must it be made so difficult? If they are trying to do better and contribute, then I do not believe that it should be so hard for them to so. The system claims that they want felons to be on a road to redemption once they get out but then they go back and make it such a difficult process to do so. It just does not make sense and I believe that there should be a simpler way for them to get their voting rights back when they are pushing to do…

Each state has the right to determine its own disenfranchisement laws. However, not if they conflict with the constitutional voting rights. Felon disenfranchisement is the stripping of voting rights from those individuals who have been convicted of a felony. These rights can be taken in multiple ways, however there are five prominent categories: permanent loss of voting rights (twelve states), right restored after parole and probation (nineteen states), restored after parole (four states), restored after term of incarceration is served (thirteen states and Washington, D.C.), and unrestricted voting while incarcerated and thereafter (two states).…

Ex felons should be able to vote after finishing probation or parole. voting would help them readjust to everyday life, we let them drive and buy alcohol, so why not let them vote. If we truly want people convicted of felonies to re-engage with society, become rehabilitated, and feel a part of a broader community (thus creating incentives not to recidivate) our state should do everything possible to re-incorporate these individuals into mainstream society.…

You are correct, when you said that’ it is up to the states to restore the rights of a felon” I did my research and found out that depending on the state, the crime that was committed and the time that has passed since finishing the sentence, some ex-felons can have their voting rights restored. I even found out that there are two states that allow felons to vote while in prison (Vermont and Maine), I have to admit that I was not expecting that one.…

Many have heard the saying “if you do the crime, you must do the time”. This saying signifies that if one acts upon a certain action, he/she must live with the consequences of their actions. For the most part, prison is a consequence for offenders. However, ex-offenders are still suffering the consequences of their actions even after doing “the time”. Certain ex-felons upon release from prison have their voting rights taken away from them, depending on the state. Some may petition to get voting rights restored but many do not have the opportunity. Ex-felons spend years paying their debt to society only to come out and continue to be punished. Not being allowed to vote is not fair to the ex-felons, and their right should be restored.…

Disenfranchised felons should be reintegrated into society and recover their right to vote. Disenfranchisement is the harshest civil sanction imposed by a democratic society. Some of the problems involved with disenfranchisement include racism, inaccurate polls, and the massive amount of people affected. If the voice of the entire population does not include all sources and agendas, the polls will not be accurate. In Camilli’s research, it is assumed that the enfranchisement of the population is important for a fair and effective democratic community: those governed by this community must be able to vote. (2-3).…

Felons should not have the right to vote while in prison, but when they get out of prison they should be able to apply for restitution, so that they can get their rights back. No-one that is guilty of any crime should be allowed to vote until they have finished serving their punishment. If you have done something to wrong the country than one of the punishment should be losing the privilege to vote, because by voting people make decisions for the country. People who can’t be trusted should definitely not be trusted by the country shouldn’t be making decisions for the country.…
