Why do we have three million jobs open in the U.S.? The main reason from the employers view is that there are not enough skilled laborers. The people in charge of hiring claim there are three million jobs open but can’t be filled because they can’t find enough people who can do basic versions of reading, writing, and math. The professor’s view is that the employers don’t pay enough and that they should train their own people. I think the employers are right and that the problem is that there are too few people that have skills like reading, writing, and math.
One of the basic things that some people can’t do is read. This is but one reason there are 3 million jobs open today. People in manufacturing jobs that have to run complex machines need to be able to read the manual and understand it. They also have to be able to read what they input in the machine. They also need to write.
Writing is key to being hired. You have to be able to write for every job there is at least a little bit. Grammatical errors are made in people’s resumes. That is a big problem. In every job you have to be able to do math.
Some people can’t even do basic math, and they are around the age of 18. Math is essential for every manufacturing job. They need to be able to program calculations into machines that are on a grand scale. Some people can’t even multiply 24 by 56 on paper.
In conclusion I say that people need to learn to read and write. Along with being able to do math. I think that the problem is definitely that people can’t read, write, or do math.
