Three Views of The Eucharist Within the Catholic Church, there have been many differences between people’s thoughts about the Eucharist and its meaning. Martin Luther and Huldrych Zwingli decided to depart from the Church because they thought that the Church was corrupt and unjust. They agreed with each other when it came to judging the Church, but they did not agree with each other on a “spiritual” level. Luther believed that Zwingli was “of a different spirit” than himself. Both were convinced that the Roman Catholic Church did not portray the Eucharist in a proper fashion. However, Zwingli viewed the Eucharist in a barbaric way while Luther viewed the Eucharist in a civilized way. Zwingli did not believe in the full presence of Christ either. The Eucharist means the entire body of Christ and everything, which belongs to Christ. Everything involved with Christ is in the Sacrament. He is present within the Eucharist with his Human body and Human soul. Christ is also present “truly” within the Eucharist and is present subjectively in the minds of followers. When people begin to realize that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, meaning that he is on earth, then people will have finally grasped the truth of Christ and his message. Christ is “really” present in the Eucharist because it is reality, meaning it is the truth. He is “substantially” present because Christ is only fully within the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Christ is present in everyway only within the Eucharist.
