M3 – Awareness of how learning style can aid personal development
There are a variety of different learning styles, many of which vary between each particular person. There are no two people which are the same but these have been split into categories so that people can understand and learn the best way possible for themselves. There is active and reflective, sensory and intuitive, visual and verbal and also sequential and Global.
Active learners to Reflective learners (comparison between each style)
Active learners often like working in groups and often problem solvers who try different methods of solving the problem until they find the most effective and best way. These people often like to the physical experiments then the long writing essays for example in a science lesson. Handling different objects can help them gain information. Reflective people often like to think things out on their own and not in a group they are very different learners to Active learners, this way they can evaluate and analysis different options without people helping them with their decisions this could often be seen as bias as it is one person’s own opinion.
Sensory learners to Intuitive learners
Intuitive learners often look at the theories instead of the facts, for them it is not about how accurate the actual information is but how much meaning it has whether it being spiritual or cultural sometimes maybe they just understand the theory more than they do the facts. However sensory learners prefer the facts to the theories and are very accurate with their thoughts and factual. This often takes time to understand the information.
Visual learners to verbal learners
Visual learners often prefer to look at diagrams and drawings. These diagrams can still represent information but in a more effective way for a visual learner the images of which the information is represented in can often stick in a visual learners mind for a lot longer and so they memorise it. Verbal learners often like

According to VARK (Fleming, 2001-2011), visual learners prefer pictures; they tend to look for the whole picture instead of breaking it down, and analyzing each portion. They will remember pictures or diagrams on study pages. Aural learners prefer to hear things; they will re-listen to taped lectures, and should attend discussions. Their class notes might be poor because they tend to listens instead of take notes, but they will recall stories or examples from the lectures. Read/write learners like words or lists; they take a lot of notes, and re-read them over and over. They use dictionaries,…

A learning style is the way in which a person processes new information. In the learning system there are three main types of learning which are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. People may learn best by being taught with the three learning methods, but others may not. Visual learners are people who learn by seeing. These people learn more where there are images, graphs, diagrams, and colors involved. Visual learners are learners that first have to see what they are expected to know. Auditory learners learn best by hearing. Lastly, there is the kinesthetic learners, also known as tactile learners, those learners learn best by the physical activity. In a class the students’ way of learning might not be the way the professor…

As visual learner VARK says that the learners want the whole picture therefore they are most likely holistic rather than reductionist in their approach. Visual learners prefer something because of the way it looks, the layout of it and the presentation catches their eye. When explaining something the learner/teacher is most likely to draw it out so they can visualize it.…

By recognising which group of learning style you belong to can benefit your personal development in many ways. I found out that I am auditory learner, rather than a visual or kinaesthetic learner. This means that I prefer and will work more efficiently through instructions and orders by my teachers or peers. It also means that I am quite able to remain focussed and attentive whilst I am being told what to do. Throughout this project, the fact that I was aware of my learning style improved my contribution and performance to the group. Whilst working in my group, I had to improve my confidence and communication skills. Because of my preference in auditory learning,…

Visual learners have a preference that includes the depiction of information in diagrams, maps, charts, flow charts, graphs and other representations that can be used in the place of words. Learners that have this preference get a better understanding of what they are studying when they are looking at things displayed graphically (Fleming, 1992).…

In a recent study, I was able to determine which learning style category I fell into. Three learning style categories were discussed. Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning Styles were presented. The first part of the assessment was to go through three different lists consisting of different habits often associated with learning and studying. I was to read through each list and check off all that applied to my personal study and learning habits. When I was done, I found that I am dominantly a Visual Learner. Some of the characteristics I possess in relation to being a Visual learner are 1) I often ask for instructions to be repeated 2) I like to use maps or note cards when I review my notes 3) The best way for me to remember something is to picture it in my head. These are some…

One of the most important learning styles that aides my learning process is the visual learning style. Saying that, this learning style allows me to understand and multi task two things at the same time to solve a challenging problem. For example, in mathematics I can be adding and subtracting double denominators and changing fractions at the same time. This learning style helps me grasp the content better and enables me to enjoy it. At times it is necessary to combine more than one learning style to obtain the objective and yield a positive outcome in the learning process. When reading any new material, identifying…

Answering the questions from the Learning Style Inventory I established that my learning style is visual. This did not surprise me for I tend to remember faces rather than names and remembering information is vital when I have a textbook, visual aids, and written information (Bethel University, 2013, p. 19). Being a visual learner indicates that I learn with my eyes to retain the knowledge needed. This perhaps is beneficial because it requires me to understand my learning abilities to succeed in any aspect in life. In my personal and professional life being a visual learner provides me the ability to learn challenging and difficult tasks and skills. Taking on a class or subject would be simple by knowing that visual learners operate by observing…

My learning style is noted to be multimodal. This style stipulates that an individual has multiple ways of learning, instead of one or two ways as other learners. Some persons maybe a Visual learner meaning that they learn by looking at pictures or diagrams. Others may be Aural, by listening they learn best. There is also a learning style that best suits some individuals called the Read/Write where individuals learn by taking notes and reading in order to memorizing.
