Lauren Tarshis and Ray Bradbury used different approaches to convey a similar theme in the drama “The Day Rosa Parks was arrested” and the short story “All Summer in a Day”. The theme that they share is treat others the way you want to be treated. This is how they are similar. Lauren Tarshis wrote in The Day Rosa Parks Was Arrested,” Mrs. Parks Why do you all push us around”? She was tired of being separated from blacks and whites. She is also tired of being told what to do. Ray Bradbury wrote in “All Summer in a Day,“‘All a joke!’ said the boy, and she seized her roughly.’ Hey everyone, let’s put her in a closet before the teacher comes!” The class thought that she was lying about the rain stopping and the sun. Lauren Tarshis wrote in “The…

During my English comp summer session class, I was instructed to read several essays and give my feedback on them. In my opinion, the last three writings were probably the most memorable and important. “Hurricane Katrina”, a story on the immediate and after affects of Hurricane Katrina on the city of New Orleans, was first of these three stories. It focused on real life experiences of people who lived through it, victims giving their heartrending testimonies. “It’s Not Just A Bike”, is about Lacey Taylor and her tireless pursuit in her cause to help bring to a halt thieves stealing bikes from off her school campus. Another story I read was “Free The Children”. It gave constructive criticism to parents who would not generally let their children enjoy their summers out of school. These three compositions were the most significant and interesting to read.…

Through the point of view, the structure, and the diction used in the poem, Lee is able to convey the complex relationship of the two characters.…

We use it in our everyday’s life to make fun of people, or simply because someone is annoying and we would like them to stop, without being “too” rude.…

“Whoa! Didn’t see that coming…”. Situational irony is an extremely common literary device that plays a critical role throughout a variety of stories. It not only creates suspense but surprises the reader as well. This can be shown through the three short stories entitled, “The Possibility of Evil”, “Just Lather, That’s All” and “The Skating Party”. It is critical that situational irony be used for effect in Shirley Jacksons', “The Possibility of Evil”.…
