4 P's of success
On the first day of the communication week we were introduced to the ‘Four P’s of Success’ framework to help us find the right career. Our group spent a session on one of the P’s namely Passion. We used a funnel approach starting from broader interests narrowing it down to our passions, before finalizing on a singular item that we could relate to and communicate effectively. There was a common thread linking a lot of my interests which culminated in the final selection of ‘identifying trends/making forecasts’ as a passion for me. One of the reasons I cherish my old job was that I had a chance to work in the strategy/business side for a bank during the recession which helped me use this quite regularly. At the same time, I felt like there was another ‘passion’ that I needed to check and was the primary reason for getting additional exposure by coming to a B-school in Europe, contrary to the advice of a few of my friends and seniors. This is my deep interest in playing team sports and my desire to set up a platform for sports infrastructure in India. Conversations with a couple of teammates helped me identify that the underlying reason for my desire to follow sports is the impact it has had on my growth as an individual and a professional. I have already volunteered for consulting projects for a multinational through the Sports Business Club and hope to use this avenue to identify if this passion is something that can satisfy the 2 other P’s of Potential and Paycheck. In the meantime, I will focus on the previously identified passion.
Having worked for a big bank in the US, I feel that the financial sector in India is in a nascent stage. I would classify playing a key role in the impending financial revolution in India as my purpose for the future. I think that a key differentiator (potential) will be the ability to better identify the root causes driving certain behaviors and predict future trends, something that requires a mixture of training, intellect,

The early chapters of the book focused on creating awareness to the idea that being truly successfully results from choosing a job that sparks passion, risk, and excitement in life. Combs gave excellent advice in aiding students to find what they are truly passionate about. While reading the sections that included reader interaction, such as pulling out a pen and jotting down your passions or ranking values of the workplace, I found myself actively participating in these exercises solely based on my own curiosity and interest in becoming successful. I found the exercises to be very useful as it helped confirm my passions and possible options for my dream job. Throughout the book, Combs provided excellent transitions from one chapter to the next. Being so engaged by suggestions within the book, I was lured into reading the next chapter and reflect on aspects of my own life as Combs brings up the topic.…

During my off season from soccer, I plan to be a sports commentator for ESPN or to open up my own personal training business. If I do not follow through with my main plan because of injury or loss of interest, I would like to go to college solely for a degree in business and sports education. After graduating from college, I would open up a full time personal training business for soccer teams. There I would be able to teach many young players the game of soccer and help them to perfect their…

I have a great passion for sport and believe I’ll be able to express this passion at Melbourne High School through the various opportunities and sporting teams. I am greatly interested in the sports: soccer, table tennis, badminton and sprinting. With my previous school, I had represented them in interschool sports for soccer and badminton in the school team. I had passed both tryouts and with soccer, we were able to easily pass divisions and reach regions. I have also had past experience with music where I had private lessons for the piano for around two years which I believe will be handy and I can pick it up again easily.…

After all not knowing our strengths, accomplishments, and desires or how to utilize them hinders us in making a sound career choice. There are many ways to be deterred or misled as to why or how to go about a career change. It is suggested in “What Color is Your Parachute” that if an individual follows a few basic steps, develops an understanding of his or her self, and does not go about a career change or job hunt in the usual manner, one can be successful at finding a career that is enjoyable, even if a company is not advertising (Bolles,1995, p.186).…
