In the business world, quantitative techniques assist in decision making. The functions of quantitative techniques extend beyond decision-making to providing tools for scientific research, facilitating the deployment of resources, help in the selection of the optimal strategy and minimize costs. There are three main quantitative techniques that include mathematical quantitative techniques, statistical quantitative techniques and programming quantitative techniques.
The objective of the report is to use some of these techniques to explore the financial performance of Coca-Cola Company in the past five year. The analysis will focus on describing the general performance of the company, finding correlation between various indicators of growth and formulating linear equation to predict future performance. The case focuses on Coca-Cola Company and considers five-year data from 2009-2013. The years 2009 was selected as the baseline year because it coincide with the start of the global financial melt-down that affects most economies in the globe. The economic crisis extended up to 2010 when most economies and firms started to recovery. Therefore, the five year-historical analysis depicts how fast or the trend of recovery in one of the greatest and profitable multinational. Coca-Cola Company is a key player in the soft drink industry and as such its trend is indicative of the general trend in the industry. It is estimated that most companies have stabilized from the effects of the crisis after three years of strategic investment. Therefore, a five-year forecast creates a good picture of the expected performance of the companies.
