5.04 the holocaust
Hey there my name is Sofie I am 8 years old, before the holocaust started I lived in Kaunas, Lithuania. I remember the day that my family and I were taken, I had just gotten to the dining table and started eating breakfast momma made all of my favorites that morning because it was the day before my birthday it is what she does every year. Two men who looked like soldiers knocked on the door papa invited them in and offered them breakfast, the politely declined and told us that we need to pack one suitcase of only our necessities. When papa asked him why the solider responded firmly telling papa that he just needed to do as he was told, and so we did. I really wish we never would have gone with the soldiers that morning, it was a terrible mistake. The soldiers pushed us into a small car, when I asked momma where we were going one of the soldiers turned around and yelled at me and told me to be quiet or else. I was terrified; I started to cry momma held me and told me all would be okay. When we arrived at the train station they spilt us up papa was sent to one train and me and momma were sent to another. I begged him to come back; one of the soldiers turned and hit me. Momma stepped in front of me and they told her to take me on the train before they did worse, we did as they were told. That was the last time I ever saw my papa, when the train stopped momma said that we were in Auschwitz. We were there for about a month before momma was moved…..I was all alone after that. I missed momma and papa so much. Two weeks after momma was taken away I went in with a bunch people to take a shower, the first one that I had ever had since being there. I never came out; there was some kind of gas that came out of the shower heads. I wish the soldiers never came to our house that morning; I never got to tell my momma and papa goodbye. They survived and found each other after the holocaust was over. I was killed at 9 years old just because I was Jewish… it was so

At first we weren't allowed to leave our homes for three days. Then we lost our right to own any objects of value. Next we were made to wear yellow stars, and forced to live in the ghettos of Sighet. We remained naïvely content in the ghettos until one day when were transported like animals to Auschwitz. Unknowing the horror that laid ahead of us. What have we done to deserve this? Absolutely nothing! All this just because we're Jewish. I am writing this letter to not only inform you that I have read your article. But to also prove that SS officers of Auschwitz are guilty of crimes against humanity for the torturing of prisoners who were already tormented to the extreme.…

The holocaust was one of the worst events that happened in the world and it happened 21 years after the First World War. What was more tragic was the stories people told who had survived the concentration camps they went through and the punishments they had to suffer just to survive and live on, but even some people were killed for no apparent reason, other than just for fun. In this story Prisoner B-3087 it tells us a sad but survival story about a boy, named Yanek Gruener who survived ten concentration camps, where he had to survive being tortured, worked mercilessly, and almost starved.…

Only Jews were among us. You can’t hate your own family and kind, right? A woman named Martha offered us a place to hide in her village. My father declined and stayed. We should have taken her offer. A couple of months later after we had settled down. I felt like this was a tad bit weird how He let us live here but then again who am I to question His motives. The Nazis then came to us and told us we have to move and leave our houses again. What happened next was the most violent thing I had ever saw. Men and Women were being attacked and beaten to near death. Children and babies were being torn from their families. The Nazis had separated us by gender. I was with my father while my mother and sisters were in a separated line. I never saw them again. We were then put on a crowded cattle wagon and then charted away from the ghettos. The cattle ride was disgusting. It was dirty and crowded. Teenagers openly had sex while we just pretended not to notice. We thought we were going to Hungary but the German solider said we belong to Germany now and said he will shoot anybody that tries to run. We remained on that wagon for two days. We were quiet until Madame Schechter began screaming about fire and a…

Overnight it all changed. Many of our friends shunned us, life became colder and less fun. There were demonstrations all the time with young children leading them in Hitler Youth uniforms, holding Nazi flags. “Juden Raus!” they would shout and much worse. Even our old friends were there, they wouldn’t look at us, maybe they were ashamed or were too scared to let on that they knew us. I was so happy when father told us we were leaving. Margot was scared and did not want to go. “There is no life for us here”, mother told her, “there is no more life for us here”.…
