What are your goals in relation to being in EPI? My goal is to deliver effective content to all students. I want to have a classroom that caters to a diverse group of students and their individual needs. Where do you see yourself/want to be in 1 year? 2 years? In the next two years I want to be a highly effective educator in math, science and reading. It is my goal to have a model classroom and create an environment of learning which caters students regardless of individual instructional levels. Whole class instruction is an essential part of student learning but becoming an expert at differentiated instruction is what will help students most. Throughout my journey as a beginning teacher I want to perfect classroom management and transitions. What do you think you know about teaching? (Be honest – you may know more than you think. Think about it – don’t worry if some of it isn’t exactly accurate - you won’t know what is if you don’t include all of your knowledge.
Teaching is a major time commitment. The classroom is not going to be perfect on day one and it takes time to develop relationships with students. Now that I’m entering session three I have a different view of the program. The artifacts and objectives develop an educator holistically. EPI is not a class but an overall teacher focused experience. The past few sessions have been informative and it serves as a “safe place” for new teachers to express their success and challenges without fear of being looked upon negatively.
