Body piercing takes time to heal. Most of the time, it takes about 12 weeks to heal. But it only occurs if good care is given. Depending on different type of piercing the time taken to heal is also different. Poor care can lead to infection including blood-borne viruses, allergic reactions and nerve damage. Therefore, one must be very careful in choosing the type of piercing and must take care of the piercing after get pierced. This is to prevent bacterial transmission. The piercer must wear disposable gloves. For each different piercing the piercer should change their gloves. Piercer should disinfect the client’s skin surface that to be pierced with saline solution. They have to clean the surface of the skin in order to prevent bacterial contamination. Appropriate piercing equipments must be use. For example, only the sterilized needles and jewelry must be used. The jewelry used must be nickel free to prevent allergic reactions and rejection. The client must make sure that the piercer sterilized the non-disposable equipment after the piercing procedure using autoclave.
