“Turkeys in the Kitchen,” written by Dave Barry, is about the stereotypical man’s ineptitude in the kitchen on Thanksgiving. Like Barry’s other essay, “Road Warrior”, “Turkeys in the Kitchen” has a light, humorous tone. Also like in “Road Warrior”, Barry utilizes hyperbole and irony to create humor. For example, “...find out whether the tackled person was dead or just permanently disabled.” is hyperbolic because it would be very difficult to kill or permanently disable anyone with just a tackle.…

Show Them How To Have Courage Stereotypes rule today’s society and they determine how we walk, talk and go about our everyday lives. You cannot go through an entire day without being exposed to some sort of stereotype, forcing people to make a daily decision. Do you just accept stereotypes or attempt to break away from them? Everyone is aware that making judgments about people before you know them is morally wrong, yet many people struggle to avoid doing just this. It is easier to just follow the crowd and conform to popular beliefs than take the time to realize that most of these assumptions about people are not true.…

When I was a little girl, I loved to listen to ABBA with my dad in the car. My parents were amazed when I told them what song I wanted, but I didn’t do it by telling them the track number or the name of the song. Instead, I would sing the tune, and if I knew it really well, I would sing the tune along with some of the lyrics. The reason I was able to do this was because of hearing music all around my house my entire life. Eventually I understood the idea of a song having a starting…

Another at-risk behavior the students shows is having a hard time sitting still in a chair. The student often stands at his desk. Often times the student is shuffling in his seat, constantly moving to different positions in the chair. The student often fumbles with items in his desk. This constant moving and shuffling is a distraction to other students as well as to the student himself. It is imperative that the students remain seated for order to be obtained within the classroom. It is also important for the student to be able to sit still for a length of time necessary to focus and complete the assignments.…
