I’m attending Texas A&M University Kingsville and am a freshmen majoring in kinesiology. The courses I’m taking are intro to exersice science and will eventually take many sciences like physics, biology, anatomy and physiology. These are some tuff classes and I’m not a big fan of, but this is something I have a passion for and have a strong mind set on. My goal is to pass all my classes with nothing lower than an 85, and learn how to process my financial aid on my own without my parents help. In order to achieve my goals, I will first receive a good education. I plan to study and time manage all my work and assignments, so I may keep turning all my work in time. I also will talk to my peer mentor and ask her to teach me how to do my financial aid, as well as ask for advice on how to stay successful in college.
In regards to the career I want in the near future, I would like for it to be near my boyfriend. At the moment I don’t have a job, but god willing when I graduate I will find a decent physical therapist facility to work in. For this reason, I hope to find a job on base or where ever my boyfriend is stationed. My way of achieving these desires is by, looking into job openings ahead of time before I graduate, so I can narrow down my search and know more or less where to find a suitable job.
We all know college is our first priority, our school work comes first before going out with friends and watching TV. On the other hand, we sometimes do have spare time and what I enjoy doing is playing basketball. Unlike most of my friends, I have a passion for the game. One major goal I have right now is to try out for the basketball team at Texas A&M. In order for this goal to come into realization, I’ve contacted my high school coach, in which she is good friends with the head coach here at TAMUK, and offered to put in a good work for me. Additionally, I talked to the head coach myself, and I might have a shot to be a “walk-on” in the Women’s basketball team
To ensure my future is promising, I ‘am getting an internship this summer at a physical therapist facility to get a better recommendation, when I do apply for PT school. My goals to finish college is four years, and god willing start a family with my boyfriend and soon to be husband. I know raising children is going to be tough because he’s in the navy and I won’t be seeing him as much as I would like to. Plus, I know raising 2 kids is going to take a good amount of money, but with my decent job and my husband’s benefits and full support it can be done. As for a home, I know that’s a big investment; but I will be living on base with my husband so I don’t have to worry too much on expenses because everything is paid for.
It’s hard to believe how much my dreams and goals have changed these past 18 years, to a more suitable life style. No more astronaut or becoming president of the United States, those dreams are attainable, just not for me. I know as I go through college and life my aspirations will continue to change; not for the worse but for the better, therefore I know I will attain those goals.

When my parents first expressed to me that I needed to take advanced courses starting freshman year, I was skeptical. At the time, I thought this to be too extreme, but little did I know that colleges look back on all grades…

Despite being able to overcome obstacles, I have come to realize there are things in life that I have little to no control over. Now that I have had time to experience the joys, hard work, and endless opportunities that come with being a college student, I have come too far to let anything stop me from finishing this chapter of my life. In combination with my scholarships and work-study, as a college student with little money I rely partly on my parents to finance my education. Although my parents will continue to do all they can to help finance my education, their income stability is not guaranteed, my family…
