50-50 Analysis

“50/50” directed by Jonathan Levine is a movie that was released back in the year 2011. This movie was made on a small budget but was critically acclaimed success due to the profit it had incarnated during its release. It does not stop there; this movie has been received well by both the audiences and especially by the critics which some have said it is a good hearted film made on a difficult topic. Moreover, this movie has been also nominated for several top awards in the film industry like the Golden Globes. Besides, all those things; it also sends out a clear message to all the audiences in the movie itself. The phrase, ‘It takes a pair to beat the odds’ which is the highlight of the film, generally has a lot of meaning to it. But in this
It means that no matter how strong a person can be or look like, he or she is still in the need of a good and trustworthy friend. Yes, a friend that he or she can rely or depend on in the need of the most miserable or darkest time of your life. A friend that can say to us, ‘Okay, don’t be sad. There is still hope.’
Well, that is almost what similarly happened in this movie. In ‘50/50’, the main character Adam Lerner played by Joseph-Gordon Lewitt a guy in his late 20s finally learns from his doctor that he has been diagnosed with schwannoma neurofibrosarcoma a type of rare spinal cancer. At this part of the movie, it shows the shocked and denial site of Adam Lerner not wanting to accept that he has cancer before eventually accepting it because he was more of a good mannered and good behavioral guy. His reaction in the beginning of the movie also helps to sum up his current situation because he believes that
Basically, it is about the question of loyalty. Can a person really be loyal during this time or will they succumbed under constant pressure and accept defeat? It is very hard to say because there are many of these kind of cases where sometimes a person can be truly loyal or sometimes it might be vice versa in a way. In this movie, Adam Lerner a truly more introverted and mild-mannered person faces another heartbreaking moment when he finally finds out the truth of his ex-girlfriend Rachel, played by Bryce Dallas Howard. He thought she was the woman of his life. The one who he thought he could really count on during his desperate time. But that did not exactly quite happen. At a certain point of the movie, Adam Lerner finally finds out that all this while his ex-girlfriend was actually cheating on him when she was pictured kissing another person by his best friend Kyle. Latter in the movie. his ex-girlfriend tried to explained her situation of being constantly pressurized and even tried to make amends with him just so that she could use him as a bait again. But this did not happen, instead Kyle was the one who advised him to break up with his cheating girlfriend so that he could just move on with his life although the incident initially crushed him. This shows that sometimes a friend can be really more loyal than a boyfriend or girlfriend or even a spouse
