50 cent once said, “Some people are born with very little; some are fortunate enough to have it all. When I grew up, we didn't have much. I had to hustle to get what I wanted... but I had that hunger for more. I didn't always make the right choices, but I learned from my mistakes (“Brainy Quotes”). This quotation shows how tough life can be, but how your life choices can change it. 50 Cent and Ben Carson both have very tough lives growing up, but have become extraordinary men. Ben Carson and 50 Cent are similar in their absent dad, but had a loving mother, growing up in a rough neighborhood and they both overcome their challenges.
To start off, when comparing Ben Carson and 50 Cent parents their absent dad and loving mother stands out. Unfortunately,
50 Cent never got to meet his dad. His mom tried very hard to be a good mom. With love she decided to sell drugs to help them financially, because she wanted to be able to give the world to 50 cent (“50 Cent Biography”). When 50 Cent was only eight years old his mom was murdered (Brown). Ben Carson had a very similar mom, Sonya Carson was very supportive and did everything that would help her two sons out. Ben Carson’s mom and dad separated when Ben’s mom found out his dad was cheating. Ben's mom tried to make the situation better by doing what would make Ben and his brother happy. Although, 50 Cent and Ben Carson had to grow up without a dad they both had loving mothers.
Secondly, Ben Carson and 50 Cent both grew up in rough neighborhoods with unhelpful peers. 50 Cent grew up in a Jamaican neighborhood in New York City with his grandparents after his mother had died. 50 Cent didn’t spend much time at home. He was always on the streets learning ways of violence and drugs. 50 Cent got in trouble for bringing a gun to school his sophomore year and was arrested at least twice for dealing drugs (Brown). Ben Carson grew up in Detroit until the separation of his parents. Ben, his mom and his brother moved to Boston to live with Ben’s sisters mom. In Boston his peers were very mean to him, because he was one of the only black kids in his school. When one of the teachers criticized Ben for being academically advance; they move back to Detroit. While in Detroit Ben had difficulties with his anger including almost stabbing one of his friends, because they were being mean to him. Ben Carson and 50 Cent both grew up in rough neighborhoods and had problems with violence.
Lastly, 50 Cent and Ben Carson both overcame their challenges in different ways.
Although 50 Cent dropped out of school, he went to a prison boot camp and earned his high school equivalency. 50 Cent started rapping when he was in high school. He based his raps off past experiences and looked up to other rappers for inspiration ("50 Cent Biography"). 50 Cent came to be know worldwide for his song Get Rich or Die Tryin' earned five Grammy nominations in 2004 and went on to sell more than twelve million copies worldwide (Brown). Ben Carson's mom forced Ben to read and become more efficient in school. She made him and his brother read two books a week and write a summary for them. Ben then carried on the success of school and went to Yale University. He attended medical school and became a neurosurgeon. 50 Cent and Ben Carson both reached their goals by pursing them.
To conclude Ben Carson and 50 Cent are similar, because they both had an absent dad, but a loving mother, they both grew up in a rough neighborhood and both overcame their challenges. Although Ben Carson and 50 Cent both had rough lives growing up, they made the best of what they had. Who would have guessed both men had a rough life before living there dreams. With Ben Carson is a famously know neurosurgeon and 50 Cent is world widely known rap artist; it's clear the never stopped believing in what they could
accomplish.
