Course Description
An in-depth review of such matters as definitions of subsidiaries, associates, and joint ventures; equity accounting; exclusions from consolidations; and the preparation, presentation, and analysis of consolidated balance sheets and income statements.
Course Objectives
When you have completed this course, you will be able to:
Explain the reasons for and types of corporate expansion.
Explain the cost and equity methods of accounting for investments in common stock of another company.
Prepare a consolidated balance sheet immediately following the acquisition of full and partial ownership.
Explain the effect of the cost versus equity on preparing the consolidation.
Show the effects of inter-company sales of land and depreciable assets on consolidated financial statements.
Prepare determination and distribution of excess schedules for two 100% investments at alternative prices.
Prepare journal entries to account for contracts that are denominated in foreign currency.
Explain the effects of exchange rate fluctuations and forward exchange contracts on accounting for import and export transactions.
Translate foreign currency financial statements into the reporting currency of a Canadian company and remeasure the books of record into a company’s functional currency.
Identify issues related to the preparation of financial statements for not-for- profit organizations and Public Sector entities
